So how did people feel about the reveal that Rose was Pink Diamond all along when the show was airing? Because I just got done watching it for the first time and I hate this twist personally

It was pretty telegraphed.

It was pretty retarded (I don't even think Steven's Gem and Pink's match in sides).

This. /co/ called the existence of Pink Diamond back in S1, and most of us saw the RQ=PD twist coming as early as S2.

Doesn't make it a bad reveal, more just confirmation of something most people already figured was coming; sort of like the reveal of Ford in Gravity Falls.

before the twist people had guesses that rose was pink diamond since it was a likely theory that while not everyone was on board with, they couldn't deny how likely it was. In general the twist led to the massive downfall in rose reputation and the massive increase in hate for her for and everything she did (specially with the movie coming out with spinel). I remember a lot of fighting and a lot of debate on if this was a good twist or not so it was super controversial (hell even now generally opinion on rose has never really recovered since)

personally i can enjoy the twist for what it was but feel that it took rose character in a direction i didn't like since the way the show wanted to frame her as a morally complex character didnt work as well since the diamonds are not only much worse but are to blame for how she turned out to the point its hard to blame rose for doing what she did

I was watching the first episode, and then the video had an ad for the second episode in the credits that spoiled it

looking back it was pretty obvious but I thought it was a nice twist and it really made everything else make more sense in hindsight

Very divided. I think it was good, even though I hate the show looking back on it.

Ok you know what I change my mind, I don't HATE the Pink Diamond twist. There are some things I like about it and a kind of like what they do with it. But there's still a part of me that just finds her being a normal Quartz who rebelled against homeworld and shattered a diamond more interesting and cool than her just being a diamond

It was always a theory, but not the most serious one

It was a pretty obvious twist, honestly. It was popular early on, but for some reason it died down. People lost faith in it I guess.

Is guess my issue was
>was it even a twist at all?
Im not saying it was entirely predictable but rose clearly had much more going on than any gem other than the diamonds. A lot that could have been done with that- lesser royals or minor houses or some such. I felt like the "well actually she was a diamond" was more lazy than anything. Maybe they got told by the network to wrap up before the story was really supposed to get there. Hell if I know but I didnt really like it either.

It makes her way worse and creates a dynamic where she wasn’t actually convincing people to be free but rather using her diamond charisma to get what she wanted.

I liked it, though I will say it does get old always having to make the MC's royalty or tying them back to some special lineage. Rose breaking the mold and leading a rebellion against the Diamonds because she didn't want to be a cog in a machine would've been cooler even if the gradual reveal had a lot of fun "No way"/"Oh shit!" moments.

The diamonds are a cool allegory for Rebecca gradually realizing her family were Zionists growing up, though.

I've seen it a few times now, where a twist is so obvious you might call it immediately, but then the show fails to act on it for so long that it lulls you back and you think maybe they'll actually just play it straight

The biggest issue outside of the people already mad that the show didn't express militancy post 2016 election, was that we basically saw Roses character development in reverse.
Rose was he best self in the time leading up to Steven's Birth but was at her worst during her time as Pink Diamond.
Because of that a lot of people's final thoughts on her as a whole were colored by Pink instead of Rose for the worse.

Didn’t care for it myself and was hoping it wasn’t true when fans mentioned it as possibly. It honestly made me Rose/Pink look cowardly.

Yeah I always had to question her leadership skills after the reveal be how the gems know if she is a good leader or just fell for a diamond’s charm? I don’t know if that was the creators intent but that and with how she just sort of peaced out and had the crystal gems deal with all the loose ends made me believe she was shit tier one.

Still can't get over how the whole show was basically one huge space family's trauma over the death of a person they all knew

It makes the whole show feel so small-scale and every adventure sort of meaningless in the end with how the Homeworld situation is made all about the Diamonds' trauma over losing Rose too.

>People you idolize aren't as great as you remember
Or
>The struggles of trying to live up to a basically Messiah figure

Which would have been more interesting? I feel like for Steven's character, the latter makes more sense, so they REALLY should've amped up how absolutely perfect Pink Diamond/Rose was. So that when she basically sacrifices herself to create a new, imperfect living thing, it's a bigger toll on everyone else.

The thing is I already accepted that her storyline was reversed and after thinking of what it would be like to watch her character from start to finish I still can’t stand her. A fuckton of gems were genocided(as far as she knew) because she couldn’t actually stand up to her sisters. I also blame it on how quickly the diamonds accepted the situation it seemed so trivial.

I and other anons had been expecting this twist since episode 8. The part that surprised me was how Pearl was involved. I liked it for what it was.
