I like this movie a lot, but it's a shame how Paramount sabotaged the original storyline/concept. At least they allowed the animation crew to do whatever they wanted (so long as it stayed on PG-13 territory)

No he's right. Bakshi basically hired inexperienced animators, gave no direction and bought whatever they would draw. Hence the random animations that pop in and out all throughout the film.
While he got low paid interns to rotoscope the "horny" parts.
And the Studio still had to take whatever it was and somehow cobble it together to make a profit.
I met him at a con once. I looked into those beady little eyes and I didn't see a soul...(shudder) it was more like stink wrapped in human skin.
