This is David Colton, the new US Army sanctioned millenial Captain America, born too frail to serve his country after witnessing the September 11 attacks, he bravely volunteerd himself for scientific experimentation and received the super soldier serum.

Say something nice about him /co/.

The SSS is peak from the standpoint of the military as an organization. One injection and you never have to worry about PT tests, you no longer have to worry about them blowing out their backs and knees in a few years from carrying 70lbs of gear, they're stronger, healthier, heal faster, and experience less fatigue, they still fit all existing equipment and vehicles, and the process takes less than an hour while able to be carried out in groups. Plus if any of them go rogue they're not so enhanced that regular people can't take them down. The point of the SSS isn't to spend bilions to turn 1 soldier into the equivalent of 100 soldiers, it's to spend billions turning 100 soldiers into the equivalent of 1000 soldiers while not having to pay disability claims.

I mean, the hobgoblin variant of the Goblin Formula makes you stronger, tougher, and more agile with zero downsides because a random fag figured out how to avoid the "it makes you go fucking crazy" shit or whatever the fuck was going on with Norman and given how easily made goblin formula is by random fuckers in like sewers and shit, I'd have to assume it's cheaper VS the thing that took them like 70 years to re-discover like a bunch of retards.

If it was 1610's "Fistfight and overpower the Hulk" SSS I'd get it but "Can fistfight Spider-Man" when people bother to remember how bullshit that is, is just objectively better but still not so bullshit that dudes with LMGs couldn't theoretically contain it [particularly if they were goblins too since again it's apparently cheap as fuck and braindead fucking simple to make]

This story's set in the 'past', sometime during Avengers #4, just after Cap got defrosted but before he officially joined the Avengers.

>>149294173

His suit's tacticool, here's a flashback of him in the Middle East, wearing desert colours. In the OP he and Cap are being dropped in Latveria, which has a lot of forests I guess.

To be fair, this guy's being slotted into a period of time Cap was on ice that didn't exist until recently owing to the sliding timeline, and is probably going to end up as a villain if he makes it to the present day. We've had 'historical' Caps subbing for Steve before, notably the 'commie smasher' Cap from the 50s comics being retconned into a separate character in the 70s, so it's nothing that hasn't been done before. I'm cautiously excited for a modern spin on this kind of story.

Honestly I think it makes sense for there to be more turnover between the wearers of the Iron Man suit. Not to say Tony should be retired as a character, but there's nothing that says it's got to be him inside the tin can. The fact that other people could put the suit on is something that sets Iron Man apart from heroes like Hulk or Spider-Man, and more could be done with that angle than having yet another villain try to get their hands on Stark's tech.

No, that still happened (unless Slott came along and tried to discredit his own work saying it was a Space Phantom or whatever), because it's standard fare superhero domestic drama, and not tied to any single historical event.

Cap reacting to 911 in ASM v2 36 did not happen in the current 616.

Like I said, I'm cautiously optimistic. Zardsky's hit and miss, with his runs typically starting out on a high, then devolving into a boring mess. I'd love to see what Brubaker could have done if he could have been lured back to expand on the concept. He did a great job modernising commie smasher cap and Nomad.

They're trying to do what DC did in 1956 - - successfully reboot one of their iconic brands.

The difference is that the old brand is still around. No one will accept the new Cap, the new Iron Man, the new Spidey if the old one is still hanging around. People accepted Barry Allen because Jay Garrick had been gone for five years.

The mental enhancements of the SSS is also understated. Being able to greatly speed up and raise the ceiling for the training, competence, and skill of your soldiers to fulfill a variety of tasks because they have perfect recall and greatly enhanced learning capabilities means not only do you not have to worry about soldiers blowing out their backs during training or experiencing fatigue, but they're also on point for everything they're doing at a level beyond other soldiers. Goblin-enhanced soldiers still die to bullets and explosives, so it's not exactly that much of a boon to be stronger and tougher, at which point it's better to just have your soldiers be much smarter and competent at their job to compensate.

AFAIK, the Goblin formula doesn't offer these bonuses, and most other reproductions of the SSS didn't offer these bonuses. The physical enhancements of the SSS isn't as powerful as these variants, but it's also a better package deal. Having an army of stronger and tougher soldiers doesn't mean much if they're still only about as competent and train at regular human levels.

If Zdarsky were intelligent, he would write that Doom receives money from government sanctioned programs like USAID in the guise of humanitarian missions and this makes Cap and Dave diverge on what to do with this information.

But he isn't, and making soldiers and superior officers bully a asthmatic recruit is dumb enough for we to know it.

Probably going to butt heads with Steve due to their different outlooks on resolution. He seems to be more like John Walker in that he wants to more actively hurt people to stop them from hurting others, while the beginning of the comic showed that Steve is more willing to try to find some understanding than getting straight to the ass beating.

Priest did this in Captain America & The Falcon with Anti-Cap. Scrawny nerd enlisted after Oklahoma City Bombing.

You can spare yourself the next 2 years of Captain America and just read that old Priest run instead. Chip's Daredevil was a cover song version of Andy Diggle's Shadowland.

This is comics where there are no new ideas, but Darsk is just rewriting shit he liked 20 years ago. Maybe that's all of Marvel. Maybe that's all of life. It sucks I'm old enough and gay enough to remember.

What I'm curious is how they're going to explain why neither Steve nor anyone else ever brought this guy before. Cap often reflects on his legacy and the other characters that have taken on the mantle of Captain America or have otherwise been inspired by him. If this new guy dies, his death should have weighed on Cap, if he becomes evil, that should also weigh on Cap.
