Would it have made a good adult cartoon?

apparently matt was going to make it a show. but then he realized that he'd have to give away the rights to the comic to the big buisness guys, so he drew a little family based loosely off his family and the simpsons were born.

i think a show would have to be pretty different, some of the best life in hell's were just a bunch of text in a square

I don't think it really functions the same way most television stories do so it'd be a hard sell

i always disliked how matt tried to portray himself as this wicked outsider iconoclast who Doesn't Need No Rules in the school books when in reality he was an A student heavily involved in extracurriculars

Semi-related: The Loud House was originally going to be about a family of rabbits. Imagine.

While I would prefer this version somehow I don't think it would be as popular. Part of the TLH charm is that feels very grounded in reality and the wildest thing are the amount of sisters and the shenanigans they cause. They being anthro would take alway some of that, it would be just another good Nick show that would have ended too early.

The Life in Hell books are just word salads, so No. I DON'T think it would've worked animated. Matt Groening's animated works struck the perfect balance of dialogue-based and visual humor. They also were hard carried by a full staff of much funnier writers but that's another conversation

I don't think so. It would have been a good recurring segment on a sketch show though.

I don't know what was written into his contract all those years back that allowed for this, but I still hate that it continues to this day. Mans really thinks he's the next Schulz all because the Terms of Endearment director liked his comic books back in the '80s and took a chance on him
