I was a dumb kid but for the longest time I assumed he was somehow related to Martian Manhunter since he looked so much like a recolor of him.
Anyway even as a lover of DC nobodies I have never been particularly invested in him.

He's a wind elemental stuck in a robot body. Imagine being Isekai'd, but you still come off as distance and unemotional due to being a robot

He was a staple of the JL comic in the 70's so it's not too weird.

>What's his gimmick?
>We have Vision at home
Despite appearing slightly earlier, he's basically the lesser version, who never reached the same heights, but never seemed to have people at the company who hated him so much either. Until someone used a Valentines Day story to have his wife leave him for a human, thanks DC.

Itโ€™s frustrating, because the basic premise of his character is absolutely rife with potential. RT is a JSA/pre-WW2 era android that still serves as a hero in the modern age, and that basic summary, in of itself, opens tons of potential stories.
Obviously you have all your classical android/robot centric stories, like whether a machine can learn to love, fighting against their own programming in a battle over their free will, and so on, but the fact that Redโ€™s been around since WW2 is whatโ€™s really fascinating to me. How does a machine thatโ€™s been around and functioning for over eighty years continue to function? What has he seen in all that time? Does he remember all of it with perfect clarity, or has he been forced to forget due to the limitations of his memory? Does he feel inadequate or replaced by the advent of new technologies and heroes?
Heโ€™s already treated as โ€œthat one guy everyone knows, but never gets a proper introductionโ€ in every piece of DC media not named Batman:TBAB, so DO something with that goddamnit.

Iโ€™m much more of a fan of the Ma Hunkle version of the Red Tornado than I am of the robot version but I do like that T.O. Morrow was such an obsessed fan boy of hers he made a robot as an homage to her. Also the fact that he then proceeded to kidnap her Granddaughter and give her wind powers as well

If you were a kid in the era of Wikipedia and YouTube then you had access to comics, you were just to stupid to realize it.

don't care much for red tornado, but his creator, t.o. morrow, is pretty cool. read 52 recently and he was pretty fun in there
though, from my understanding, he has some "power" (wiki says it's a tv) that lets him see into the future which is how he comes up with ideas and invents stuff? kinda lame imo, i prefer him just being a true genius that comes up with this stuff on the spot and creates it instead of getting ideas from the future. i get it, his name's "tomorrow" and there's branding and all that, but the name already sounds cool enough for a futurist type thinker, it doesn't have to be a situation where his name is literal and he can actually see the future

The wind elemental thing, or a Red Tornado that's actually Lois? Lois Tornado is obviously dumb, but IIRC the wind elemental thing was a retcon and I'm not really sure what the point of it was, what was wrong with him just being a robot? It's the kind of overcomplication that later writers add just to make their mark, which end up clinging to characters like barnacles through reboots and adaptations, when they were originally a pretty simple concept.
