While I get your concern, you need to keep in mind that New York is the place most likely to have major damage reality warped away or fall out of the timeline.

So sure, you're really likely to be killed while living there, but you're ALSO really likely to be quickly revived if you're killed. Whereas if you live in some shithole like Saskatchewan and you eat a meteor or a small black hole or a rogue god or something, you'll probably stay dead for like a few decades.

I could very likely pay for every single bullet fired by my entire country's police force since they got guns in the 60s, due to 4 of them getting killed by a single armed man.
