For 1995, this segment holds up well. PDI did a good job.

It's so funny how my mind remembers old CG. I remembered Toy Story 1 looking as good as Toy Story 3 and 4 do now, and I used to think this Simpsons ep looked as good as Pixar movies.

Look at the human characters in Toy Story, this Simpsons ep holds its own against that easily.

What sucks is that THIS kind of TV episode can never exist anymore. CGI has gotten so good that either it looks high quality by default, or the shitty CGI just looks stiff and awkward, but THIS LOOK has just aged like fine wine. Helps that this kind of graphics showcase was used for gag scenes like this, KND, and that one Courage episode, it aging has only added comedic value. Its one of the reasons why I say Code Lyoko still holds up with its shitty CGI, it sells it as this ancient archaic program that these kids found themselves in

This episode freaked me out as a little kid. I didn't understand how TV worked and thought there was a part of the story missing where he gets back to springfield.

Yeah, the segment isn't actively trying to look realistic, it's trying to look deliberately 3D animated, and in that regard it's aged very well.

In the end it was probably a smarter decision than Pixar constantly chasing "realism" in their 3D animation, the end result is that their early movies look painfully dated.
