>First act is atrocious. Bizarre editing, exposition dumps and pacing

>Emotional cores of the film are underdeveloped, we truly don’t get see how much his original belief of his parents meant to him when it’s only brought up twice prior meaning the twist doesn’t hit. The citizens literally turn on him in one second lol. The “I love you” to Lois doesn’t hit since they only interacted twice prior.

>Many characters are completely pointless like Hawkgirl, the engineer and Rick Flag Sr

>Finale is the worse mix of CBM tropes, villain who has the same powers as the protagonist and massive world ending CGI fest. Neither gets time to breathe. Ultraman isn’t even a character which is a missed opportunity since the message of the film is you are who you choose to be. Clark giving that choice to his clone instead of killing him (?) would’ve been great emotional payoff.

Lex, Terrific and Jimmy were great. Need Lois, Cat and Hawkgirl in my harem.

Is it, though? Why would we need to specifically see an illustration of an evil Superman to understand why the concept of it is bad and why Superman isn't like that. You don't need to analyze a shadow to prove how bright the light is.

Honestly, this movie is really shining a light on a lot of psychological problems with people. You think evil deserves a chance to be deconstructed or debated with. It doesn't—evil just gets punched or thrown in a black hole and the rest of us get on with our lives. I legitimately feel like this is a societal issue stemming from socia media, where every tweet gets a chance to be taken seriously as long as it has enough likes.

>>First act is atrocious. Bizarre editing, exposition dumps and pacing
If anything I felt the first act was better than most Capeshit nowadays which has to do a whole fucking loop until the action kicks in

The general audience already know who Lois and his biological parents are, there doesn't really need to be a whole dramatic arc when everyone's already familiar with these characters and even then the movie does an interesting job by already placing Lois and Clark on a relationship with the secret identity gone. And there kind of is an emotional core/arc when you consider that this younger Superman and Lois are only dating for 3 months and each of them have egos of their own

>>Many characters are completely pointless like Hawkgirl, the engineer and Rick Flag Sr
Most of them are set-ups for future DCU projects, Flag is there to draw a bridge with Creature Commandos; I do wish The Engineer was fleshed-out since I barely recognized who she was

>>Finale is the worse mix of CBM tropes

I agree with you on the last part, but I also think Ultraman is an interesting character since it plays with the film's focus on people seeing Superman as some sort of US Ambassador and how he should act; Ultraman is kind of a mirror to that, a Superman that always follows orders and is trapped by his biological parents (just as Supes with his kryptonian family, Ultraman has that with Lex) and as a result is a complete dunce. In a way, Clark killing Ultraman kind of symbolizes him letting go of this way of life.

Just my two cents.

Not evil just more complicated than simply GOOD and virtuous which is fine. Gunn and Swet just today gave an interview or at least it was published today saying as much. That parents are complicated and through that or despite it you have to find who you are independent from them. As I say above, the "is it real or isn't it thing," was a tad sloppy in that it wasn't exactly clear when he accepted maybe, like when he was out of it and ma Kent was telling him to rest it seemed it he was kind of hallucinating it and it wasn't really the deal, but the next scene with Pa it became clear. This I think is a casualty of the runtime. Plot beats move a bit too fast, but that it does move so swiftly is ultimately a strength too I think.

Just got back from watching it myself

The first act is indeed a mess and it takes a while for you to get into what Gunn is going for but after that it's great. I feel like they could have cut out some stuff like the Kaiju and some of the Justice Gang to set things up better and it would overall be more cohesive

There are definitely pointless characters and this movie will become better or worse based on how the new DCU plays out over time. If there's no pay off for these characters then this movie becomes worse but either ways it's not an amazing standalone movie even if it was entertaining

Clark's parents sending him to conquer Earth needed a lot more than a single speech from Pa Kent and people instantly hating him then instantly loving him again

Superman is a newbie at this but I feel like Superman would do more to get Krypto trained up and would actually tell Kara off for her loose living. It's fine if the training doesn't take and she ignores his lectures but Superman would give those lectures and would try that training

On a positive note I really felt like this is a Superman who cares and is a Big Blue Boy Scout so the vibe is good. Jimmy Olsen was great as well.
