This show is pretty forgotten, but interesting.
>They made an animated series for Beethoven which is a “family” movie that looks to be about a giant slobbering dog making Charles Grodin’s life a living hell, but it’s really about this psychopath vet paid to test bullets, who kidnaps dogs and then shoots them to see how much their brains explode (yes that’s the plot).
>The animated series is about what the original movie advertised, funny dog hijinks but this time Beethoven TALKS (i am not joking) all while terrorizing the neighborhood. He now has some dog friends who also talk, one of them was Bill Fagerbakke before Patrick. They also only could afford one of the family’s actors to voice one for some reason.
Overall, this was a pretty decent series, but not the most memorable thing.

artstyle looks like UPA before that saw a resurgence.

Most memorable one was when the dad was angry the massive drooling dog kept going on his bed, so he locked the doghouse only for him to escape and destroy the bed.
He later tied paint cans to the bed and opened the screen door. VERY bad idea cuz Beethoven jumped on the bed, caused the bed to roll and ripped the balcony apart.

oh wow i looked it up, 1994? I could have sworn this was MUCH later, like around the Kenny the Shark era. I guess looking more closely though, it's more 90s Nelvana style. Bobby's World, Camp Candy, that kinda art. not so much UPA. but the house is.

that's how family stuff worked in the 90s. people were still into depicting evil as evil, instead of sympathizing with it and saying oh it's not so bad, maybe we need to come around and change our viewpoints a little. (while simultaneously saying certain things are never okay to depict at all, yeah, shootin dogs would be included there)
which voice actor returned? Beethoven did have dog friends in the movie so that isn't that strange.. that one little dog was hilarious. the one that bit the bad guy in his junk.

The person who played Ryce returned to voice her. But they didn’t get Grodin back as George, so they hired the dog killer’s actor to voice him.

that's hilarious. but they do have similar voices, so I could see it.
Like when David Kaye got to voice Optimus.

A few shows around 93-95 felt like training grounds for the UPA revival.

I'm more bewildered by R rated movies getting cartoons aimed at kids.

Grodin was still kind of a big name and had his own CNBC show at the time. I assume that Nicholle Tom was just cool with doing voiceover work too since she was also voicing DCAU Supergirl not long after that.

Don't remember much about this except parts of the Cone Dog episode. I do remember it was actually funny and watchable though, which those kind of shows prior to the 90's usually aren't.
