i didn't cry but the moment with his dad was really well done. i imagine a lot of people went into this worried that Gunn wouldn't "get it" but that scene really hammered home that he did.

Exactly backwards. Bugmen are the ones who can't emote because they lack a soul.

Whatever Gunnshill. This hokey, corny mess of a film was the MCU on steroids and not really good. Gunn's DC universe looks like a mess.

Anyone else adore how much of a fucking asshole Luther was? God, he was the ultimate dick but that's what made him so weirdly perfect as an antagonist. I was predicting he would be a dindu and Ultraman would betray him, but what actually happened in this movie was fantastic.

That scene with Pa fucking destroyed all of Kevin Costner's screentime in MoS. It wasn't even close. Also, I was honestly surprised at how much I sympathized with Metamorpho

I've been hit or miss with James Gunn since Scooby Doo when I was a kid, but that ending was incredibly well done.
It was handled subtly but it's implied that Clark hasn't been spending much time with the Kents in the last few years, he isn't avoiding them it's just that he's so focused on being Superman and taking up the role he assumes his Kryptonian parents set for him. He seeks comfort in that brief snippet of their message.
But at the end he's soothed by memories of the Kents growing up- he doesn't need to outright reject the House of El, there's no monologue about forsaking their memory because they were wrong, just a quiet change where he can take solace in his memories from Earth.

i loved the message but thought the 360 pano of childhood video was a little creepy? i'd have pitched an alt where the robots wheel out an old VHS TV and he plays their tapes like that, instead of it looking like some kind of clockwork orange kansas brainwashing routine
