This movie convinced me that it's impossible for Hollywood to make a good Superman adaptation.

Twas ever thus.
Every good Superman adaptation except TAS was an independent production made by licensors who has nothing to do with Superman’s parent companies and weren’t beholden to them at all.

The problem is that modern WB keeps trying to over-correct too much.

People called Superman Returns boring and dull so they overcompensated with Man of Steel’s seriousness and grittiness. Then they overcompensated MoS with Superman Legacy forced quippy humor and campness.

It is always one extreme.

Just copy Dragon Ball and Smallville. Throw out the reporter shtick and keep Clark on the farm.

Superman is gay and boring. People prefer straight and interesting characters like Spider-Man and Goku.

Not Hollywood, they were British indie movies. Warner Bros distributed them, but they were financed by private investors and made under a “negative pickup” deal — the producers delivered the movie they wanted to make and WB released it.

I haven’t even seen the movie, it’s the other opinions on why the character of Superman itself is inherently good or bad and anons’ ideas on how to “fix” him that are terrible.

Look man, if you’re going to throw out a radical departure from a character’s story concept, you can’t get indignant about it if people say your idea is bad. Such a thing is inherently risky, you’re taking the chance of breaking what works about a character in your effort to fix it. And the reporter schtick works.

I was just recently thinking about how that stupid speech gave an entire generation of redditors enough material to spew pseudo-intellectual hottakes for a decade. I don't miss it. Now if only we could kill "Superman is an illegal immigrant" and "Batman is stupid billionaire who punches poor people instead of giving to charity" and we'd be able to have some good comics discourse again
