A thread for episodes/issues of cartoons or comics that dealt with serious topics and issues in an attempt to teach a lesson. Both good and bad examples can be posted. Bonus points for if it's either drug-related or particularly nutty. Picrel is the Jem and the Holograms episode “Alone Again”.
Were there any that dealt with “satanic panic”-type of stuff?
>>149372095The lesson here is that guns are badass
Remember the Itchy and Scratchy where the moral was just "Say no to drugs"? That one sucked ass. What was the story behind that one?
>>149372124Fineburg and Levine went on a bender and felt bad about it afterwards
It annoys me a lot that Wolverine can't smoke
>>149372259>fineberg>levineI don't like saying it, but...
>>149372272Watching the old iron man cartoon today, It's a SHIELD episode and they pointed mention Nick Fury giving up cigars and had him chewing on a toothpick. (oddly, Dum-Dum Dugan's in it too but no mention of his ever having smoked)
>>149372272Yeah, I get where you're coming from. I'm pretty sure Disney buying Marvel it the reason why.
>>149372914Quesada actually, due to him being an ex-smoker. Also regardless of anything else, the writing was on the wall for depictions of smoking in mass media in a general sense.
>>149371633lmao this loser forgot about the gargoyles gun safety episode and the stupid ok ko skeleton controller episode.
>>149371597 (OP)BraveStarr "The Price"
Your typical run-of-the-mill anti-drug episode which ends with a kid dying from their drug addiction.
>>149373112I decided to start watching this one, I like the design of the wolf guy in it
Captain Planet is full of these, but in "Mind Pollution" Verminous Skumm hooks Linka on drugs via spiked burritos.
Later on Skumm has his group of addicts pull a January 6th to get to the Planeteers. Literally they take an unscheduled tour of the Capitol building and everything.
>>149371597 (OP)Does the Braceface episode where Sharon dated the 12 year old count as one?
>>149371633Helga child abuse episode?
>>149373651Probably talking about 'Helga on the Couch' which has her going to therapy.
Family guy probably should gain some sorta of reward for the most amount of episodes of that type, that the creators did not care about outside just trying to milk it for the controversy and that most backfired.
The Domestic violence episode where the crew kills a guy, the we love transsexual people episode were brian pukes his gut out for the idea of having sex with one, anything related to religion that is laughable bad and ignorant to a ridiculous point.
Personally, I'm quite fond of the episodes were they try to be serious, specially involving Stewie, like the episode were brian and Stewie get stuck in a vault, and would be a very interesting episode about mental health and checking in your friends without shoehorning the message right in, without the 5 minutes of Stewie grooming brian to eat his shit and toss his salad. shown in full glory, because we really need to see that.
Maybe because FG is an adult series they tried talking about more mature topics, but episodes like that for me always felt off compared to everything else, so I kinda consider them "very special" episodes.
>>149373208Dingo. He was a dingo. And this cartoon let me down. While there were male and female sheep people (and the ladies looked nice)...where the fuck were the female dingoes? The males were making money selling drugs and things they stole...the females should have been...you know...running a brothel.
Wasn't there something with addictive magic analogous to drugs or am I thinking of something live-action?
This filtered millions...
>>149374762Now wait, was it magic or something addictive that gave them powers?
>>149371597 (OP)The fat albert one where they go to jail.
>>149376629Funniest episode hands down
>>149372947Would it be wrong to portray villains as smokers in today's age?
>>149374769Ah yes, the Homelessness episode.
Still kinda hurts.
>>149376629>>149376806The Christm-, Kwanzaa, pardon, special is pretty very special too.

>>149371597 (OP)didn't hey arnold have an episode about a kid hooked on chocolate to obviously talk about drugs?
>>149374762I kinda remember some cartoon with a shady-ass mage who was trying to teach kids to use magic...so once they got to the point to where they had ACTUAL power, he would consume their power for his own. Might have been a ghostbusters ep or something.

>>149371969I think you'd have to look at direct-to-VHS Christian cartoons for that. That's adjacent to what were talking about.
>>149372769See that's at last kind of acknowledging it at least exists and having a bit of fun.
>>149372914I don't even really like smoking or especially want to see it but the fact that nobody can just makes the world feel, for want of a better term, fake. And it's not just that specifically but a lot of little things add up to big things to make it come off as cartoonish. Or like we're being talked down to.
>>149372947>Quesada actually, due to him being an ex-smoker.And also his father died from emphysema as well if I recall correctly. That's why J. Jonah Jameson had a heart attack and had to stop smoking too.
