Because despite changing American Way to Human Way, Superman is still seen as an American hero. And thus foreign people canโ€™t relate to him.

Spider-Man is more reliable than him.

$100M opening week is low. Next week it's going to fall off -50% and it's going to make $50M, and then $10M - $30M the remaining weeks it's out.

So $400M is what you can expect at the end of it. Which is lower than Man of Steel BEFORE adjusting for inflation.

The foreign market loved the Snyderverse. Especially Latin America and Asia

So I never liked the Snyderverse, but I did always wonder why did Warner Bros drop him if he did so well overseas? I mean... money is money. Who cares if it plays in one market better than others. They kept making those Michael Bay Transformer movies because China ate that shit up.

Reminder that studios get a bigger cut on the profit from international markets. Some markets charge more than others. For example China has preference with its own movies so they charge more money to Hollywood flicks.

>bigger cut
I mean lower cut. I admit it, I'm an ESL. The point is that Hollywood make more profit from the American market than from the foreign market

Superman is more American than Captain America
Honestly it hardly matters, domestic box office is how studios stay in business

Because money is not money. If a movie makes $200m domestic, WB gets about $150m of that. If it makes $200m in China, they get about $50m of that. If this weren't the case you'd see every American film studio trying to make movies for foreign countries. They lose so much of that money when it leaves the border, but back in the 2010s the gross from China was just so huge that it was worth caring about

That's true. I think foreign markets are just done with superheroes. It's like how movies about Demon Slayer will never do as well in America as they do in Japan. Just the way it is, even if there's interest here it's not the same as home grown passion.
