>Why do people flock to things that are well-known and can easily earn the reinforcement of their peers
Because people seek validation above all else OP and only a small fraction of people are genuinely interested in things. See also: People that reference Idiocracy like it's a prophetic masterclass of film as though it isn't a schlocky comedy movie making fun of 2000s society that regularly aired on fucking Comedy Central.

Nah people just want to bolster their own viewpoints by sharing them with others and that's most easily done through collective shared experiences. At least half of the people involved in the pro/anti AI debates are only involved because it gives them a platform to get immediate support from their peers. People genuinely interested in anything, from art to ethics, are a minority of the population.

Eurocomics are overhyped and still not as good as good manga

Kind of have to agree with this. Eurocomics often have good art but the writing is usually borderline incoherent.

Actively wanting to seek out new and relatively obscure content in a field instead of just following whatever's popular or what you grew up with. Most people listen to top charting pop music for social reasons, people genuinely interested in music look deeper. Etc.

That's how I got into Moebius. It was my first serious encounter with comics as art. I read Moebius comics along with Watchmen and Akira, and to this day I'm still chasing the high I got back then.

Then stay at /a/?
Also some of the best Japanese stuff was directly inspired by Moebius and wouldn't exist without him, like Akira or Nausicaa. I'm not even gonna start on his influence on America.

>nobody looks into the artist or source, meaning they miss out on what could be some of the greatest comics they'd ever read
1. Whenever a moebius drawing is posted literally every comment is something like “Moebius <3” and the “account doesnt credit the artist” thing is less and less common.
2. These people were not and are not ever going to read an entire comic simply because they saw an image they liked on social media. Let alone a translated French comic they would find weird.

This hasn’t been true in decades. What you are even has a name: hipster. In every corner of media a large mass of people always make believe they’re finding the new and undiscovered thing and that it’s totally better than the thing the normies are viewing or listening to. And yet what it’s served to do is fracture culture in general so that nothing is big anymore.
