So this show is blatantly woke as fuck, right? It’s arguably more woke than most of the stuff I see get paired with that label yet it’s well liked by the people who yell “woke” at everything and I don’t understand it.

The wokeness in this doesn’t feel different to me than the wokeness in other properties like the Star Wars sequels, I’d argue it’s even more heavy here in places. I’ve even seen people who decry anything woke straight up say this show isnt woke at all, and that’s just complete shite.

I’m saying this as someone who actively doesn’t mind woke stuff in media by the way, I’m just confused as to why a show so blantanty woke is seemingly accepted by the anti-woke crowd, the same people who use woke as a pejorative for bad.

The margin for error and forgiveness for it is slimmer and slimmer yeah, because of less tolerance for fuck ups, overuse and abuse of the concepts involved, and because most people making shit these days are ideologically captured faggots with zero self awareness or talent, but if you put a likeable girl and have her go murder the fuck outta the space germans or whatever or have a black dude fight vampires most people won't hate it on principle, they've just had all their good will and trust used up already so you need to have some humility to get them to take a chance and some quality to make them like it.

I don't think it's woke though everyone has a different definition of that word. I think of woke as a mixture of gender ideology with white guilt. For gender ideology, Mizu crossdresses, but she's not deluded into thinking she's actually a man. Biology is what is shown to separate men from women not self identity. For white guilt, Mizu does hate white people, but that shows her as a self hating vengeance obsessed racist, not as someone who is right to hate white people.

It helps that the characters all feel like characters in a story, not as props to send a message too.
