I don't understand why the fuck can't they just adapt the comic book stories. Gunn said he was inspired by 10 trillion different Superman stories but is it so hard to just adapt one?

So it nearly breaks even in its first weekend, and into this week it'll start turning a profit, before next weekend?

And thats just from US consumers?

And youre sure it'll make $0.00 abroad?

>So it nearly breaks even in its first weekend
It didn't. It's budget is $225,000,000 so the break even point without accounting for advertising is 450. At best you can say it's half way there with the 220 global opening.

>And youre sure it'll make $0.00 abroad?
As of now, yeah it won't make back much from overseas. It already opened in every market, including Japan which usually gets American movies way later.

realistically superhero films were going no where anyway. Despite them making less money than they've had in decades, Hollywood has little else which could regularly make 300+ mil.

Though, even with Superman underperforming DC is still in a good position film-wise for the near future. Assuming WB doesn't fuck it up. Which means DC is actually in a terrible position in film, like always.

They are adapting some comics directly.
Unfortunately, so far they're only adapting Tom King's stories.

But for Superman, there was a decent reason to make this an original film. All of Supes' best comics are mostly his solo adventures. And Gunn and DC want to introduce the movie-going public to the broader DC universe early on.
So this film, with great showings by Mr. Terrific, Jimmy Olsen, Metamorpho, and the 'Justice Gang,' does make people more interested in the DC brand as a whole, which Warner Brothers naturally wants.

Movie budgets should actually be doubled to account for advertising. For a movie like Superman 2025, just doubling it may be underselling that.
Right now Gunn's Superman would be incredibly lucky to reach 600 million. Assuming it does, with a budget of likely 500 million, okay in that one it would actually do decently, maybe I'm wrong.

You are telling me that literally all Superman comics with other popular sidecharacters are 0/10 goyslop? DC couldn't shit out 1 good story in 100 years where SM is not solo?

WB will fuck that up.
Supergirl and Clayface will underperform, so Batman: Brave and the Bold will be turned into World's Finest, and then there'll never be a second Superman 2

Well actually I suppose they could have done "Superman: A Gift for the Man who has Everything" which is a great story which also features Wonder Woman, Batman, and Robin.
And probably could be reworked into fitting in other superheroes or members of Superman's supporting cast.

Another thing, is that DC doesn't want to come out the gate with a Justice League film. They want to replicate the MCU by building up these separate film franchises and having them crossover. Thus making more money by attaching smaller IPs to a larger one.
And most of Superman's crossovers are either World's Finest books (which DC wants to come later) or Justice League stories, making it hard.

Either jerking it off or saying it's the worst thing ever.
As a big Superman fan I thought it was only like a 7/10.

I think that happens with every superhero/franchise film these days. You have people who act like every Star Wars tv show, or every single new superhero movie is, like, the best film ever.
I don't get it.

To me, the only superhero films I've seen which I felt were actually really good films, not just good films for the standards of a superhero movie, were Superman 1 and to a lesser degree 2, The Dark Knight, and Wonder Woman 2017

my goal for the 2025 movie was to walk out feeling inspired for mankind, which i didn't. they spend the whole movie showing clark can get ouchies and lose his temper, but at the same time he's still the single most powerful entity in that universe.

i felt like all they did was hit refresh on the universe so they can make a marginally more optimistic movie franchise.

Well it's probably moreso that they just had to reboot, since they fucked up so hard and alienated their Batman and Superman actors out of continuing with any new projects, hired a weird sex predator for the Flash, and black-listed their Cyborg. Leaving their Justice League into just being Wonder Woman and Aquaman.
And Gal Godot can't act.

It might do over 300m domestically but overseas it won't gross above 200 at the current rate. It might unironically get Aquaman 2 numbers.

Because it's being compared to the last run of DC films. Those who hated the Snyderverse thing it's the best thing ever because it's much more lighthearted, while those who loved the Snyderverse think it is terrible because it's much more lighthearted.
