Sue wrote a play that wasn't as well received as Jessica's. David isn't doing anything wrong by liking Jessica's shitty play.

Sue's "boy goes to see evil witch, turns out to be his sister, they lived happily ever after" play wasn't exactly Broadway quality.

David is not allowed to be wrong because that would require the application of basic consequences. His retarded walking meme status grants him plausible deniability.

>>149394175
What David did wrong is shittalk Sue's play forever ago while gushing about how "creative" Jessica's thinly-veiled public jackoff session was.

It's kinda funny how many people are seriously discussing the quality of the plays in response to this chapter. I do think it's worth noting that David decided that Jessica's play was one he could truly be proud of immediately after hearing Sue wouldn't be doing the play, well before he saw or knew anything about it. I think he just likes Jessica for some reason?

I agree. Personally, I'm really hoping this doesn't end like the last Sue-centric chapter, with Sue accepting she's a loser in the eyes of her friends while in hospital for ANOTHER broken limb. That whole chapter just felt kind of mean.

It was a school play, of course it wasn't broadway quality. But it had quality sets, effects, and costumes, and Lucy's singing was apparently great.

True! All the parts Sue outsourced to someone else were great. It's just the writing and manipulative casting that was bad.

In a fit of rage from the fact that this is the EXACT SAME FUCKING STORYLINE AS LAST CHAPTER, I have taken up arms and sought to slaughter the inhabitants of the Fallen Desert. I unleashed the Wild Hunt of the Fair Folk upon the Shielded Queen's nursery, where her handmaidens fell to the last attempting to prevent the abduction of their children. I sent forth the specter of the Minotaur, who I had tricked into believing the Shapeless Smith's philosophers were the acolytes of Daedalus who first trapped the Minotaur, and so their mortal forms were rent and dashed till even their great craftsgod could not fix. I opened a gate to the Sunless cove, where the siren songs of the merfolk drew the Nameless Emperor's hordes mad with desire, and so they plunged into the water where even the mightiest of heroes can not return from. These, and many more atrocities I committed with glee. It is then that I gazed upon this ancient battlefield, now silent for the first time in eons, and realized that my rage was not soothed, and the abandonment of so many of my morals and beliefs left me more empty than ever.

Then I did some drugs with the Smiling Healer's acolytes and got pretty high, so I think I can guess Wednesday's page. Sue is hobbling along on her crutches like the cripple she is, bitching about how David thinks he's so smart and that he better not be including himself in the grouping of "few brilliant minds" because he's an absolute fucking dumbass. Amaya just looks at her, and then Sue yells that it's not a nasty thing to say.

At Halloween, she tried to drag Lucy out to trick-or-treat and Lucy responded with mockery and needling Sue's insecurities. She also tried to introduce herself to Augustus and got sandbagged. Sue, Daisy, Paulo, and David threw a small surprise party for Lucy's birthday, and again Lucy made things awkward.

>Sue did deserve to have that thrown back into her face.
I don't agree; Mike isn't technically wrong that his friend group was never very supportive of him and Sandy, but that doesn't mean he had to yell and be a dick about it.

Besides, from a strategic perspective, Mike yelling at Sue when she tries to ask what's wrong is incredibly dumb and self-defeating. I mean look: Sue's even like "It's Lucy, right? Things have been weird since she came back...", which is a golden opportunity for Mike to air some of his legitimate grievances about Lucy. Sue WAS trying to listen and support him like he claims to want, but then he turns around and yells at her for no reason.

I don’t count the Lucy stuff because Sue actively wants to be Lucy's friend and absolve herself of past guilt. Being nice to Lucy is the logical way to get what she wants. I don’t blame Mike because frankly at that point all Sue has been doing for a good long time is passively take his friendship for granted or act like a cunt with very little provocation. He has no reason to trust her. Obviously he shouldn't have screamed at her, but I dock more points from Sue for finally getting some guff from they guy and, instead of treating the massively ooc behavior as a concerning symptom, she decides Mike is scum of the Earth. Even Paulo tried harder.

Sue DID treat the massively ooc behavior as a concerning symptom. That's the whole reason she was talking to him - and she kept trying even though he was being abrasive, until he started yelling at her. And it's not like she's held it against Mike; the comic doesn't have them interact much anyways, but other than the one when Mike and Lucy were on their way home from taekwondo, the handful of interactions Mike and Sue have had seem friendly enough.

Anon, again, she treated her childhood friend like *scum* after he dared to yell at her for possibly the first time ever. She tried exactly one time, gave up, and got hostile. Even PAULO tried harder to get through to Mike (albeit in the worst ways possible) before giving up. As for forgiving Mike, I am monumentally skeptical. That's not true, he yelled at everyone at Rachel's party. And Sue didn't treat him like scum, she was rude to him ONCE when he was acting weird and eavesdropping, and they spent most of that encounter standing next to each other as they awkwardly watched Daisy and Lucy snip at each other.

We weren't shown very many direct interactions between Sue and Mike after that, but she was happy to condemn Mike along with Abbey (a long-time deplorable in her eyes) as "terrible" because they stated that Arguably Best Girl didn't want to be seen hanging with the nerds.

Are you mixing up the events of All in the Mind with that flashback chapter where everybody rightfully hates Paulo? Because in All in the Mind, all she did was call Mike a jerk and ask Lucy if she wanted him to fuck off. It's not like she called him a bad friend, or got up in his face like he did to her.

>That doesn't look like Sue is trying to help Mike in any way. It's just a question, and not stated with any degree of sympathy or care.
"Why are you sad?" is an inherently sympathetic and caring question, anon. The fact Sue asks it at all is demonstration that she still thinks of Mike as her friend and wants to help him. ESPECIALLY when the last time she asked she got yelled at for her trouble.

>"Why are you sad?" is an inherently sympathetic and caring question, anon.
No, it's an inherently curious question. The change from angry sperg to calm sadsack is going to inspire something like that. It COULD come from a place of sympathy, but that's not automatic and there is no hint that Sue gave that sort of a fuck.

The retcon chapter DOES feature Sue being hostile towards Mike out of nowhere. Most other examples were in the immediate aftermath of Lucy leaving, when Mike was acting all secretive about what had happened during December. The retcon is set too late to fit into that period, but I put that down to it being a sloppy and unnecessary retcon that mostly serves to underline what a hypocritical soggy bitch Paulo is.

The impression I get from the comic sans-retcon is that after Rachel's party, Sue eased up out of pity. Sue was still mad at Mike for keeping secrets and chasing Lucy away, but her reaction when he said his piece doesn't look angry, more shocked and a bit guilty. Between that and Mike's drunkenly going "NONE a'you act like friends!" I think Sue and the rest of Mike's friends started trying to be nicer to him - it's a few chapters later when he gets into the MMO that they all play.

On another note, this page lends further evidence to David being a psychopath. Look at that grin.

I think it just boils down to Sue, like everyone else in the cast, worsening as a character as the comic went on. It got really noticeable around the time of Lucy's return. What you posted is a good example of how much better Sue used to be.

To be fair to David, and I'm shocked to write those words, that looks more like an "oh haha oh wow that's bad" kind of awkward grin. Even he was better written back in the day, in that now he's become absolutely insufferable.

One took more effort and actually challenged Taeshi to improve her craft. The other rapidly hit a ceiling and she's just been sidegrading her "style" ever since.

Yeah... I get it that digital art is way quicker, but I too noticed a sharp decrease in quality ever since she shifted to digital. It was noticeable she worked extra hard on those pages, it felt like much more thought and effort went into them... even story-wise, things were much less annoying back then.

Thank goodness the comic is supposed to end before Junior year wraps up. Watching a bunch of 17 year-olds go trick-or-treating was bad enough, imagine them doing that shit when they're legal adults.

If I may be super charitable, one COULD read Mike's relationships with his friends as them trying to be nice to him after Rachel's party, but when the new year starts and Lucy comes back, they gravitate towards trying to make her feel welcome. Meanwhile, Mike gets super rude and starts fighting with them over nothing, so they start giving up on trying to be nicer to him.

But you're right that most everyone got less likable sometime during volume 5. Personally I blame a shortage of "sweet" slice-of-life chapters to balance out the "bitter" of misery, drama, and recriminations.

That's true! Which is which, though? But that's part of why I like Sue; she's a decent person, just flawed, and in ways that are fairly understandable for a teenager. An easily-bruised ego and a tendency to hold grudges is something I can relate to from when I younger. I can't relate to Lucy or Daisy, even if I try; they just seem weird and possibly unstable.

I wouldn't say Mike had *no* reason. None of his friends had ever been supportive of him in the past, unless you want to count Paulo going from a complete asshole to a bipolar who occasionally acted like an actual friend, and even that was a very recent change in-story. By the time they finally start to show a little concern, Mike has zero reason to take them seriously. And of course none of them recognize that.

They had been supportive... on occasion. Sue specifically told Paulo off for being a dick to Mike several times, and was the happiest to find him alive after he did that ninja shit to save Lucy.

I think the thing that makes the most sense is if one assumes that Mike got all aggro due to Lucy coming back. Prior to that he still reacted to his friends giving him shit or asking about Sandy with a smile or a counter-joke. Like I said, his friends seem to me to have been trying to be a bit nicer, and Mike seemed to appreciate it. But Lucy being back simultaneously inflamed his emotions and guilt, AND restarted the unfavorable comparison in Mike's mind between how Lucy's treated and how he's treated.

Nta but i could buy that if BCB was written by anyone with halfway decent skills.

But because of how things actually are and how Taeshi is, I can't take it any more as "I need to give mike's friends a reason to hate him for a while". So his sperg era starts up randomly one day instead of the more believable Mike where he's just more blunt about his treatment by them

Honestly I liked this interaction between Mike and Sue because even though she's trying to help Mike, she is obviously nettling him by pushing him to open up about Sandy.
Obviously, Mike didn't open up about Sandy because he's in denial, but because of how oblivious is to social cues because she's autistic she goes and says "well it doesn't seem like she's been texting you and Paulo (the guy you just pummeled) says she hasn't even called you back"
It's an interaction that Mike should apologize for, but Sue was stupid enough to where she could feel really guilty about it.

Right, that too. They wanted him to date his bitchy abuser. Imagine if Lucy hit Sue or Daisy as often. They wouldn't be so judgemental of Mike. I fear for Abbey if he ever marries a female abuser too.

That would have alienated them just fine because sperg Mike already often stabbed at their egos. Taeshi just wanted to make him pathetic and ineffectual. Non-sperg blunt Mike's criticisms could not be so easily brushed off.
