Ignore all the stupid historical backstory stuff, for all intents and purposes he's just a dude in his 40s with a shady special ops past who got experimented on.

No fucking Romulus ever (this should be so obvious I don't need to say it, but he's just turned up in the current run).

Tone town Sabretooth. Just have him as Wolverine's darker mirror, not evil mastermind who throws an increasingly zany final showdown deathtrap at Wolverine every time they meet. He's a cunt who likes killing stuff, simple as.

Get rid of the kids, they're not the Batfamily, they don't sustain sales across multiple titles and only convolute and dilute Wolverine's character.

Handpick a good writer on his solo title, with coherent, unique vision. Wolverine's in dire enough straits atm that a benchwarmer like Saladin Ahmed won't cut it anymore.

Back to basics loner junk in the woods and trips to Madripoor. Short arcs and done in one stories, lots of dark humour. Similar tone to Ennis's pre MAX Punisher run I guess.

No fucking Romulus ever (this should be so obvious I don't need to say it, but he's just turned up in the current run)

Limit him to a single X-team and use him as a supporting character on it like Morrison did (Marvel's actually doing a pretty good job with this one atm). He can cameo in as many titles as he likes though.

Make Cyclops as cool as you possibly can. Wolverine is only cooler if he has a cool foil to keep up with. This may be hard because Cyclops is by definition uncool.

Don't pair up Wolverine and Storm. This only makes Storm look like a shitty second choice and doesn't serve either character.

Kill the crap forced bromance with Spider-Man. It wreaks of corporate synergy and is fucking boring. They both have better friends, and no reason to regularly interact with each other.

This is the mot spot-on take.

>This may be hard because Cyclops is by definition uncool.
Except for this part which is wildly off-base, but I digress...

I just want back-to-basics shit with Wolverine. No "lore" about his life.
Madripoor, the Canadian wilderness, Japan.

If you want to reference his past, give me unseen WWII adventures with Captain America, Fury and other pulpy characters.

I'd also like to see a revival of his relationship with Hulk. Give it a rest with Deadpool and Spider-Man and Laura, it's oversaturation.

A Wolverine solo and one X team book. But I would allow a steady rotation of minis where they can do more of the gimmicky stuff: team ups with Cable, Gambit, Deadpool (just once), Punisher, event tie-ins, "untold tales" whatever.

He’s like 5’3. I don’t care how cool you try to make him look, he is 5 foot 3. You go to an amusement park with him and the whole days ruined because he doesn’t meet the height requirements.

Claremont's original WW2 stuff with Cap and Black Widow was neat, but apart from that I've yet to see a single good story come out of him being so old. Different people like different things though, and I never said retcon him so he isn't old, I just feel it doesn't add to most stories featuring him, and shouldn't be brought up when it's unnecessary. It would be like if Spider-Man blurted out 'BY THE WAY, MY PARENTS WERE SECRET AGENTS KILLED BY THE RED SKULL' at least once per issue.

If there's a great story that can be told about Wolverine being old as balls I'd love for someone to tell it.

Weirdly being 100 years old and not 40 makes him hitting on early 20s Jean in Claremont's Uncanny a lot less creepy.

Lol, I included that part so people wouldn't crawl out of the woodwork with accusing me of being a bitter Cyclops fan.

I like Cyclops when he's written well, as a very human dude, who's just trying his best to keep it together and run a school, not an edgier version of Captain America or whatever. His being a boring dork is what makes him cool, and also everything Wolverine isn't

Also more of an X-thing than a Wolverine thing, but for fuck's sake, keep Jean and Xavier dead, they stink up and stagnate the line. If you want to sell books about them to waifufags and Hickmanfags do continuity implant minis. They might actually sell if they're about characters you can't read about in the mainstream books.

Judging by the image he started the thread with I suspect the OP's a teenager discovering he has a cuck fetish and wanted somewhere to talk about it, but Wolverine was overexposed when he was killed off in 2014, and has had nothing but middling to shit solo stories since he came back just before Krakoa.

What originally made the character cool (cool, grumpy loner with a mysterious backstory who picks fights with the team leader) has fallen by the wayside (he's now a slightly curmudgeonly dad of three, who's backstory turned out to be pretty dull, leads a team and likes Cyclops so much he may have been in throuple with him)

He is the hero for the anonymous faceless losers who want to escape from their terrible reality, an icon for the nerds if you will. Only in comics can you be 5’2, Canadian, hairy, ugly and be considered cool.

You don’t fix him you just keep up the illusion that he’s cool and have him do cool poses with his claws

There are some valid points being made in this thread about how Wolverine has aged and mellowed into something that's just not cool and exciting anymore, and he's stuck with a family of lesser versions of himself, only one of whom really has any fans, but writers won't get rid of any of them, but beyond that, people seem to be spending more time complaining that Wolverine is a hundred year old manlet, or about things that are absolutely irrelevant to the current state of Wolverine as a character, like one of his villains being an ancient wolf-man who built Rome, or that some once-dead X-Men members came back. None of that matters at all when you compare it to the big glaring fundamental problems in the X-Men line that have been building for 25 years, or how Marvel seems to think the current target audience for Wolverine is gays. Just look at the Swimsuit Special if you don't believe it.

The various X-Men groups recruiting so many villains who don't even stop talking and acting like villains anymore really kills any notion of someone like Wolverine being a dangerous bad boy when there's literal mass-murdering terrorists right next to him, and so does the edgier, militant version of Cyclops being a popular thing Marvel and fans won't let go of. These are far bigger problems than Wolverine having a villain people don't like or people not caring for parts of his backstory.

Good to great character, but a very illogical annd deep down insecure large fan base. It’s not so much him as it’s his fanboys.

Now I’m off before I get bombarded with insults and called a cyclopsfag or something
