Am I the only one who thought Wendy was ugly or at least unremarkable and not worthy of Peter at all?
On paper she's fine but soomething about her whole character design was utterly uninspiring to me.
I don't have this problem with any other Disney 'princess', just Wendy.

She is a normal, perfectly average, run-of-the-mill, human child.

You have to look at her through the Edwardian lens. She was a delightful and puckish child at a time when kids were shut up in nurseries wearing nightgowns so they could just be ignored and dealt with by the hired help. A hugely formative time in British culture.
I don't love the art style in this era, at least the way it did pretty girls, they're a bit simultaneously boring and grandmotherly, but of course that's the idea.. that's what our grandmas were like as kids.

You’re right. Tinker Bell on the other hand is a 10/10.

The story was written and set in the turn of the 20th century, but the movie came out in the 50s. The character is influenced by both eras.

Wendy’s appeal to Peter and the other Lost Boys was that she was the ultimate tradwife. Peter didn’t even want her romantically, he literally asked her to be his mom. He wanted somebody boring who would stay in his cave, fix his socks, and ask how his day went when he got home, because no one else had ever taken care of him like that before. And Wendy was perfect for that.

Wendy isn't the Disney princess from that movie. Tigerlily is, and Disney pretends like she doesn't exist.
