I feel like that's in big part due to it being one of the more exposed film divisions in the company, meaning more executive meddling and rules from higher-ups it has to abide by. It's exactly why Wish was a disaster; it was the most obvious case of them prioritizing the DISNEY BRAND before any desire to make an inspired or compelling film.
While Pixar has had its fair share of creative stifling and self-sabotage recently, I do appreciate how they by comparison are more willing to take risks and allow for a greater variety of directors, from veterans like Dan Scanlon and Enrico Casarosa as well as newer filmmakers like Domee Shi. Hopefully WDAS's more corporate influence won't eventually creep in...
