I owned a few of those comics as a wee lad. Of of them had a cover with a flasher at a restaurant, asking a waiter if bloody boogers pairs better with white or red wine.

This magazine was published in Sweden and Finland aswell; in an era where home computers, video rental and cable TV had supplanted comics as the passtime of choice, but the Internet hadn't taken the gross-out humor yet.

He had his own comic book for 20 or so years now though.
He branched out a few other projects like Riskhospitalet (Risky hospital) and Rute tid the latter I think he still does.
Think he's only putting them out on hardcover nowadays in book stores rather than trade paperbacks on magazine racks.
Looking at the magazine section in stores being swallowed up AI covers is hard to watch.

Eh, different audiences. Mad's golden age was the 1960s and 70s and it targeted adults wanting satire and spoofs for a slight chuckle.
Pyton targeted pubertal boys in need of toilet humor. Then of course it's a fine example of atavistic european comics culture. Compare and contrast with the posh cleanrooms of EC, DC and Marvel producing haute couture for refined gentlemen. Crumb included.

the worst part is that they made Vargen good. at least there's Reinard Rรคv to carry on his legacy. while he may trick the townsfolk out of their money on the regular, he also does so to Krรถsus. he's an equal-opportunity swindler!
remember kids, the only person with no redeeming qualities is Krรถsus, since he is a capitalist

Pondus is/was a rare curiosity, because it's regularly pretty funny for a "safe" newspaper strip comic. Even a bit raunchy, sometimes.
ร˜verli was always in the absolute top tier of the Pyton creators (Deep Shit Junkies was basically the best the magazine had to offer, along with Dรธlle Dรธck) and Pondus' generally high quality speaks for the man's talent for humor.

This elderly couple is Pondus' buddy Jokke's mom and her German boyfriend (Jokke's stepfather).
>"We must come to terms with it, Elsa! We're in our twilight years!" (dude has a German accent, hence the zeds )
>"What will we do with our remaining days? What should we spend what little precious time we have left on?"
>"Yeees, why not?" (in German)

That's actually an important lesson for children and Americans to learn.
