This. I think his voice should have been closer to the king from Disney's animated Robin Hood. A little smoother than that specific performance, but similar baritone.
Although I think they completely missed the fucking point of pink panther by making him talk in the first place. They made him into a generic cartoon character. There's no reason this cartoon needed to have anything to do with The Pink Panther.

Just that it should match the established character and not be this jarring a difference from expectations

>what is Syndication
For our purposes, a show that is not exclusive to a specific network and is sold station-by-station
Most stations in the United States are affiliated with a network (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox), who provide programming for the stations to broadcast themselves. No matter where you are in the country, 99% of the time it's going to have the same shows on a specific station. Syndication doesn't work like that, it's sold station by station, or more likely nowadays massive broadcasting conglomerate by massive broadcasting conglomerate. One show might be on Fox in one area and NBC in another
Usually, syndicated programs are ones that have proven themselves successful enough to reach x amount of episodes (usually 100) and be ran every weekday for an entire season, but in the 80s and 90s there were also shows created specifically for syndication like The Pink Panther Show
This is why so many cartoons from tbis period have 65 episodes, that allowed them to run a new episode every weekday for 13 weeks, then run them all again for another 13 weeks

You'd think so, but people can get oddly humpty about it.
There's a weird backlash against exotica (music) and tiki bars, but it's an aesthetic that is cobbled together from mid-century fantasy of paradise. The music doesn't really reference any specific culture, and the bars are a mish mash of several influences that combine to make something new, but people still feel like it's appropriation or somehow disrespectful.
I go back and forth on it. I don't have indigenous ancestry, so I suppose it's not up to me to decide what is and is not offensive, but on the other, I feel like there's something to be said for flights of fancy.

Yea, the voice isn't exactly bad, it's just not what one would think for Pink Panther. You could swap Pink with a number of other smart-talking, screaming characters, and the difference would be minuscule. Hell, even an original character would have served the same purpose of "frantic guy needs to get to work on time and endures chaotic drive"

>quantity over quality
In theory yes, but that's just how it worked
IMO syndie cartoons were better than their contemporaries on network television, outside of Fox and The WB most of the time. Network S&Ps were total faggots on the big 3 and didn't allow for bigger budgets, so you get a lot more slop. Producing for syndication cut out the middleman, individual stations might take issue but they're much less strict
Compare the Ninja Turtles after they went to CBS and couldn't use their weapons, or the dramatic dip in quality (which already wasn't that high to start with) with the Mario cartoons from Super Show to 3
You COULD make your show have 26 or 13 episodes, but it would be less attractive to stations
If nobody buys your show you get zero episodes.
I feel 26 episodes would be pretty difficult from a production standpoint based on the turnaround time required for these series

All the posts about Snagglepuss reminds me
I think a Snag focused series might be a tough sell, he's always been
more of a "backup segment" character, but around this time H-B was actually using a wider variety of their characters, even some of their B-tier characters
There was that Secret Squirrel reboot I personally think is just alright, the Scooby Doo Arabian Nights movie had Yogi and Magilla segments, Flintstones got like 3 specials, there was a lot of Jonny Quest stuff, there were pitches for a Magilla special and another series I can't think of
Then after the Turner-TW merger, WBA slowly took over and it was nothing but that fucking dog

This. I don't get why people think the voice doesn't suit him. Everyone is saying he should have had some kind of "low, smooth, cool" voice, but even in the original cartoons, the Panther wasn't honestly that "cool". That was just the vibe his theme song gave off. He frequently lost his shit and made a heel of himself. He was no Cool Cat.

>even in the original cartoons, the Panther wasn't honestly that "cool".
it's pretty obvious that casting someone with a neurotic tone like Matt Frewer was intentional, specifically because of that. Pink Panther's theme made him seem cool, but he was an idiot and a spaz, quite often, and only ever came out on top because the little man was an even bigger spaz. Imagine a cool-looking guy who wears all black and plays bass in a jazz band, and 99% of the time, he never talks, and it's specifically because once he does, he's out of his element and sounds like a dork. That's the pink panther, basically.

All the people in this thread saying he should have a deep/cool voice are revealing they don't actually know anything about the character besides his theme song, and the fact that he was silent.

While you are correct, not having the voice to match the presentation takes out the setup of the character
The very few times he talked in the originals he was given this smooth British voice. Thatโ€™s to give him the full package of presenting cool but actually being this complete spaz dork as you said. Having him sound as dorky as he is to try and appeal to a broader market (as the reason for the voice casting was said) takes out the allure of the characterโ€™s setup to just make him a complete dork, not a dork who can fake coolness
Itโ€™s like Wile, the few time he does talk he has this sophistication that is supposed to fake being a genius, but quickly is exposed as a dumbass. If he sounded like a dumbass it wouldnโ€™t work.

I think in this OP series they got him the same dub as Mr. Bean in my country, so I guess they got that right
