Besides, Miles never truly forgot he came from a different reality. During the last adventures of the Spider-Verse (with the Spider-Wasp), it was the fact that Miles came from a different reality than 616 that gave them the key to win.

That was different DC really want to kill him for good. by that point a great deal of fans found his books to have gotten boring and fans even asked "Do we really still need Superman" But him being killed by doomday and the whole reign of superman triggered a spike of interest so that's why he was brrough back.

Superman #75 was supposed to be Lois and Clark getting married but then ABC greenlit the Lois and Clark Superman TV show, which meant delaying the wedding until the TV show has them marry.

Superman dying was a literal last minute thing, which exploded in the mainstream media and created a new huge interest in the Superman books. Riding off of it, DC responded by taking characters they were planning to incorporate into the book post wedding and made them "the new Superman" but also took a HUGE gamble by suspending publication of ALL FOUR Superman books four three months to further milk the spotlight being on the books and how the hell they were going to bring Superman back
