Now that the dust has settled, was Disney in the right here?

Can we just admit Pixar cannot make a film, they're writers are high on no life. When I first saw the trailer for this movie I thought it was about the book The ambassador. If anyone gets that reference I applaud you. But the movie itself were just a mess, underwhelming no real focus and making the bad guy running to be part of the council instead of an invader like they originally intended just was stupid

It reminded me of one of those college films, where the insert obvious symbolism and have no clue what anything is. But you can tell in the writer's room they're sitting around going oh this is so clever I'm so smart what if the aliens that are bad are just an armor and like weaks and stuff and we have to remove the armor to represent the change. I really blame that whole culture of everyone with secretly gay and Disney films. Modern day writers don't understand subtext so they have to put everything on the surface level which creates a lot of problems. You can get away with a lot of things if you put them in like you know the background kind of thing like the original Star wars it's originally about a kid coming to age. Confronting who they want to be it's a western / fantasy/flash Gordon film. It's got all the basic tropes really basic really simple and it works. Now there's subjects of you know what does it mean to be a human and a machine and becoming part of a big system and power dynamics and corporate stuff and the Vietnam war but that's all buried. And that's the way you do things you bury it

The bad guy was never an invader to begin with, he was actually part of the council in the trailer for the 2024 version of the movie. From the storyboards floating around, Elio's clone was meant to be the antagonist and it gets resolved with a hug.

It's talk to text dude, it makes me sound stupider probably I am stupid but it's not helping. I did not know that but that would make sense of why the film is so terrible. I still don't know why they just didn't put it on Disney Plus we're done better. I also find it hard to believe the original director based this off his own life experiences, as a gay man, I don't think 11 year olds are getting boners yet what's up you hit about 12:13

Understandable then

I don't think they've had any movies go straight to streaming since the early covid years+the aftermath. I think Luca and Soul were the first Pixar movies to go straight to streaming, I can't imagine it's exactly profitable which is why they probably stopped but Elio would've lost money either way due to rewrites.

Everything from the original script was bad, they should have had someone step in like right in the beginning and say this is a terrible idea. It's a basic concept someone feels out of place finds their place it's not hard to write a story. The whole gay thing was just bad idea with this kind of story. He would have to be gay gay and get. Beating up and stuff to even get the some sort of reaction but he's really not that weird in the movie. It's just very unremarkable

>bad
I assume so but they wasted so much time and money on it for it just flop after delaying it late, I'm more impressed how much they managed to get done, yet how much stayed the same despite the changes. I think it possibly would've done better just for spending less resources. I think a lot of the gay/queer coding could've been cut out easily but that's not solely the reason why they rewrote a good chunk of the movie, it tested that poorly at test screenings. Elio even seeing the light of day and not being stuck in development hell like other troubled productions is impressive. Everything about this train wreck is just so interesting.

What did they spend the money on, I'm still perplexed by that because this is the same thing like strange world where the animation isn't that good. Yet they somehow claim it's animation cost? I've seen films done with far less and were better. Same thing with the writers even if you rewrite something it shouldn't cost that much, a render farm should not cost that much

No, the character designs aren't good, the art direction is bland but they spend so much money on hyper realistic textures, lighting and rendering and the budget inflating from the rewrites, new lines, reanimating scenes, new VAs even.

>>149440953 the animation was pretty bad for a Pixar film I'm sorry about that. Text her and render on that simple models that's crazy cost and they must have been doing something else like drugs or something. I'm sure the polygon count was not high enough on those models to get that kind of cost. It looks like something blender would do
