Or rather a female Static spin-off called Shock. Who would become the sidekick of Static.
Shock would be a clone of Virgil’s older sister Sharon Hawkins, who was experimented on with Quantum Juice, the source of bang baby powers.

That seems unnecessarily complicated. Why not just have Sharon get powers? Why does capeshit insist on being so fucking stupid?

Shouldn't they just use an existing female Static character like Shebang if they want a female sidekick? It would be less redundant to have her on the team because they have different powersets.

Daisy was a love interest in the original comics, but she wasn’t supposed to be the ONE.
It went like
Daisy loves Virgil.
Dusk loves Static.
Only Frieda, who knew his secret identity, loved both. And made him complete.

I hope Gunn does something worthwhile with the Milestone characters at some point. Specifically I want to see Dakota as a setting get some love in movies/tv. The whole setup of there being this little hotspot of metahuman shenanigans cause of gang shit was always pretty cool contrasted with the normal DC settings like Metropolis and Gotham and shit. The New 52 just moving Static to NY for no god damned reason was so retarded.

Yeah the homages to spider-man were:
“Gwen Stacy” = Daisy Watkins
“Mary Jane” = Frieda Goren
“Black Cat” = Dusk

Only instead of killing off the “Gwen Stacy” they killed off the “Black Cat” instead to subvert expectations.

Remember we have Kansas City, Missouri. And that Washington DC is not in Washington state.

Just because the city is named Dakota, it’s not going the be in the non-urban North Dakota and South Dakota.

Not saying you're wrong, but do you have a source for that besides the name? Only actual word of god I can find on the subject is that MacDuffie said explicitly that Dakota is Detroit (not necessarily that it's in the same location, but at least that it was modeled after it, don't think he said anything specific about exact geographic location) https://www.dcauresource.com/dwaynemcduffiequotes.php

And all other references to location I can find just mention it being somewhere in the midwest. Based on the fact that there's a Lake Dakota that it's by, seems likely that's meant to be a stand-in for Lake Michigan.

So a rival company couldn’t make female versions of their popular superheroes.

There's nothing stopping a company from making a black female character with superpowers, but they can't call her Static, cause that's taken. I think anon was probably more referring to the idea that if they didn't trademark the names Spider-Woman and She-Hulk some other company could make an unrelated character with similar themes and call them that to get the trademark.

So I guess by that logic you could maybe make something like "She-Static" but that sounds retarded.

It’s not just black male superheroes.
Name one male solo superhero without a female spin-off.

You could say Moon Knight. But even he now has:
1. A daughter
2. Female Moon Knight 2099
3. An OC for his Disney Plus show who was popular enough to be retcon into comics.

No, it absolutely was not. It had the bog-standard "life lessons" plots that were pretty much mandatory for children's programming of the era, but focused on telling good stories within that limitation. The fact that people constantly try to conflate shows like that with the common modern phenomenon of
>just have the characters loudly and repeatedly tell the viewer the writer's most cringe political views
is fucking retarded
