Despite receiving mixed-to-favorable reviews from critics, the film broke numerous records for Memorial Day weekend and has grossed $1.001 billion worldwide, becoming the second-highest-grossing film of 2025 and the highest-grossing live-action/animated hybrid in history.

Do kids even enjoy live-action remakes? Animated stuff seems infinitely more appealing to them, when I was a kid I’d always take animated films over live action shit like Marmaduke and Disney Channel films and shit like that, and animated stuff would stick in my mind a lot more.

Do kids like this slop or do their parents force them to go to the theaters with them?

Oh well, 1 billion means that live action remakes are back baby, anyone ready for bottlepisser Dwayne Johnson to be a wearing a shitty bodysuit for live action Moana?

I agree. I never liked seeing live action movies back in the day unless it was with actors with lively performances like Robin Williams or Jim Carrey or Eddie Murphy. For the most part found live action very boring unless it was creative like the first Ninja Turtles live action film. And nowadays you can see its all fake CG trash it's such a turn off.

Are there good live action films yes but for fantastical concepts I usually prefer animation. You could never get me to watch a movie like live action Cats but I can always give Cats Don't Dance a rewatch because the animation is lively and colorful.

Why would he need a bodysuit? He literally has muscle courtesy of steroids but yes he still has muscle enough to be Maui.

And about seeing more live action remakes Disney is not through they still got....

Frozen
Tangled
Toy Story
The Incredibles
Moana 2
Inside Out
Inside Out 2

Basically they got enough fuel to keep the live action remake fest going for at least another ten years and that's if they don't decide to do other remakes like Dalmatians yet again.

I’m a bit of younger /co/ user here, mid-2000’s born, I’ve witnessed the time when live-action remakes were just beginning, I didn’t really like live-action Alice in Wonderland (I’ve never even seen the original then) that much when I watched it, but I’m sure if I’ve seen the original I would’ve liked it a lot better, and I do remember watching Cinderella and Maleficent, not in theaters, but on the family TV, wasn’t too big on those either.

The only one I saw in theaters was Pete’s Dragon and I legit can’t remember a single detail from that film. These remakes didn’t really gain that bad of a reputation until the late-2010’s it seems, and that was around the time when I stopped seeing kids films in theaters.

We still haven't seen these live action movies lose favor. Complainers raise their voices like with Lilo and Stitch but its clear that the customers love it. It's why this remake is successful. I'll believe these remakes are finally hated when the inevitably live action Frozen movie is made and fails and we all know the chances of failure for that are low.

As a kid I enjoyed the Live Action remake of 101 Dalmatians more than the cartoon. My niece likes The Little Mermaid remake more than the original too. I think it’s that cartoons that appeal to kids of the time don’t really age as well as LA because real people don’t get “dated looking” like older animation does.

What bothers me about Little Mermaid is that its popular yet it teaches horrible morals. Ariel is an unsympathetic idiot. She knowingly makes a deal with the devil while said devil explains in detail how she is going to rip her off. And yet Ariel still approves of the deal. And to get back to Ariel is stupid, she loses her voice but she doesn't consider communicating with the prince by writing messages. We know she understands how to read and write hence the contract scene with Ursula. So Ariel not even thinking of this possibility makes her even dumber.

And yet Ariel is considered a role model by many modern adult women? Horrible. And Elsa is another horrible role model responsibility shirking shut in bitch.

The thing that made the deal a rip off was not Ursula disguising herself as a human to steal the prince. I meant when Ursula openly said that Ariel will become Ursula's slave if she fails and separately that she will lose her voice as a form of payment. Those two conditions would have made anyone go "I'm not agreeing to this rip off!"

You know what

after all the dribble I see on this website, this is a point I think we can both agree on

Why is it that sleazy cash-grabby remakes, reboots, and revivals always have to be more successful than any new IP or artist's pure vision

These moronic rubes will watch a dancing toilet brush and a sperm in a cup help separate families if it was called "Snow White"

once more, they'll eat up a movie that single handedly butcher's the original message of the original movie claiming it's more realistic when it's worse

Who is for separating families, no one unless you're an ice agent

I think we need to bomb Hollywood as well, the day they realize they ruined their own legacies will be the day their studios become ruins
