>>149451146A good writer knows that a good Superman villain is one he can't just punch out. Because if it's a matter of 'might makes right', Superman is going to win every time.
But if you give him a villain he can't just punch out, a bad guy he has to either reach morally to redeem, or disprove on a philisophical level. That's a villain people are going to remember.
Problem is nobody wants to have Superman do more than just punch out a bad guy, because he's a character who has to be all things to all people. If he actually comes out and says 'i think this way of life and set of morals is wrong'. People are going to call that Superman writer bigoted.
Superman hasn't been relevant since the 90s because he can't stand for anything anymore because him actually standing for something bigger than selling movie tickets would alienate customers and divide audiences.
