The funniest part about "punk" is gen X and older millennials who think there was ever a point in time it was anything more than a marketing gimmick. It was never anti-fascist, it wasn't really in favor of any kind of politics whatsoever, it was always a ploy to shill then-experimental fashion to rebels without causes. The only reason it seems more corporate now is because the eastern bloc fell and retarded commies shut up for a couple decades, meaning they could finally be open about its true purpose.

"Punk" was never anything more than a marketing buzzword made by record labels to trick edgy teenagers who think they're special and different into buying the same mass produced crap they were already selling.

Do Americans genuinely like this movie or it's just that it got caught in your culture war thing and watching and liking it signals you're fighting Trump or whatever? I can't remember another example of a movie being so utterly rejected by the rest of the world while Americans claims it's amazing. This is doing worse than even some of those Sony Spiderman villains movies in some big markets.

The movie is just awful, man. Feels like something that got conceptualized by a man children playing with toys. I won't say it's worse than something like Kraven, because it's not. At least there's some charm in here. There's some entertainment to be have if you turn your brain off. But even something as bland and derivative and uninspired and godawful as Kraven feels at least, a little bit, like a "real movie" compared to this. This is like a saturday morning cartoon.

>There's some entertainment to be have if you turn your brain off
Americans default mode of existing is with their brains turned off, unironically. Just take a look at the type of praise the movie gets from people online. "Lex is such a committed hater!", "This is peak fiction", "Punk rock!", "Superman mid diffed Ultraman". None of it means anything. It's bizarre. It's like suddenly there's a critical mass of people who can't sick and has no standards other than whatever activates their dopamine receptors.

For me, it's how all the marketing for the film was pretty quiet and normal until, a week before release, they suddenly go all in on the "Superman's an immigrant" angle in interviews and suddenly the film's getting all the predictable publicity about SUPERWOKE versus LEFT-WING PROGRESSIVE KINDNESS IS TOTALLY PUNK ROCK.
It's just so cynical. So long as it gets the Americans all self-righteously fired up and talking about their movie, regardless of creed.
