Been rereading the Warren Ellis run recently including his Stormwatch run. Stormwatch has its moments, but The Authority is vastly superior and has aged very well. Like pretty much ANY comics from the 2000s, /co/ tends to dismiss it these days, but it's actually really good.

>Pretty sure like, half of the slate they announced have all already either gotten canned or sent to Development Hell.
It's heading that way.

>Creature Commandos
S1 released. S2 coming.

>Superman
Released.

>Peacemaker + Supergirl
Filmed, upcoming.

>Swamp Thing
James Mangold focusing on his Star Wars film. So it's a few years away at least.

>Titans
Draft script turned in Feb 2025. Nothing since.

>Waller
Production delayed. Supposed to be before Peacemaker S2, now apparently after but having script problems. Development Hell?

>The Authority
Script was struggling to come together. Gunn said other projects had taken priority. Rumour suggests it was being turned into an animated movie. Development Hell?

>Paradise Lost
??? James Gunn claims it is in active development. Development Hell?

>The Brave and the Bold
Flash director signed on June 2023. Writer started working on it Feb 2025.

>Lanterns
Filming finishing any day now.

>Booster Gold
Gunn had a specific showrunner in mind for the project but they passed on it. Supposedly Kumail Nanjiani was cast as Booster Gold. Development Hell?

Meanwhile they've since announced 2 more shows and 5 more films that were not on the original slate. Oh and the Krypto shorts I guess. Clayface starts filming next month.

I never really liked The Authority. I felt the stories were somewhat repetitive. There are like four consecutive global invasions.
And the team, the Authority, I found it impossible to like when they pardoned and invited the guy who caused rapes and thedeaths of thousands of people, including who knows how many babies.
Yes, the guy seemed competent, but damn if he wasn't a moron mass murderer who wanted to control the 21st century.

They can turn it into a Superman vs the Authority movie. You could use it as a pseudo-sequel to tie up loose ends, and tell a more focused story. Remove Jack Hawksmoor, cause he would bloat the budget like crazy. The anti-woke crowd would probably be tearing this movie apart, so you’d have to compensate somehow. You could have Snyder direct it. If there’s anyone that could make a bunch of gay superheroes cool to chuds, it’d be him

>Superman and Supergirl / Legion of Superheroes vs Brainiac

>Superman and Batman: World's Finest

>Justice League: New Frontier

>Superman vs The Authority

Four very solid concepts but no one knows what Corenswet's contract with WB looks like, so no one knows how many pictures he's signed for, no one knows how many years he's willing to commit to the part.

He's basically become their "RDJ's Iron Man" - he is the anchor which is great for WB/DC that they can actually anchor their movie universe with their flagship character

Better use him while they can

Zaslav said the four most important characters are: Superman, Supergirl, Batman, Wonder Woman.

Those are the actual anchors that Gunn is working with

>Creature Commandos
>Peacemaker
>Waller
Honestly, how many spinoffs can the "Task Force X" corner of DC sustain? It would be great if the DCU MAX series weren't trying to be "ongoing series" and just exist as prestige mini series or "event series"
Do seasons 2 of Peacemaker and CC. then call it a wrap for those shows. Then do a Waller mini series event where those characters still appear

>The Brave and the Bold
>Titans
Everything has to be up in the air with the Reeves situation. The original thought was probably that Battinson's movies would come out much sooner and when it was for Gunn's Batman, Reeves movies would be finished.

Gunn is now unwilling to confirm that B&tB might not even be the first appearance of "his" Batman

Teen Titans could be really huge but I feel like there's no choice but to wait awhile before getting to it.

>Paradise Lost
Since WB is fast tracking Wonder woman for 2027, I could see Paradise Lost getting fast tracked for MAX as a prequel or spin off series. Basically what Peacemaker and Creature Commandoes were to Gunn's TSS

>Lanterns
I wonder what the game plan is for John Stewart. I don't think Gunn/WB feel confident that he could anchor a solo movie (or that any GL could) so he'll get an origin story TV show before he shows up in movies in supporting roles

>Booster Gold
Gunn had a vision to open with him. idk what it could be but i'm waiting for news with an open mind

>Swamp Thing
I sure would like this to still happen

Then there's
>Flash
>Aquaman
Can't seem being any earlier than "Chapter 2"

And there's always rumors of
Plastic Man
The Question
Huntress
Deadman
The Terrifics AND JLI
Mr. Miracle is getting an animated show

They could make endless movies with Corenswet, and he seems pretty eager to be Superman, but realistically could we really see him make like 20 movies as Superman? Idk, seems unlikely. I think it’s safe to assume that pic rel is the end goal for this iteration of the DCU. This could be Corenswet’s jumping off point. He has mentioned multiple times how he wants to do Star Wars

This is a good question. I think a big budget GL movie is a no-brainer even though the GL movie from awhile ago bombed. It's been long enough that I think audiences would be more receptive towards it.

Aquaman and Flash are definitely coming at some point, Gunn said as much in that recent interview, the same one where he admitted The Authority has been harder to get off the ground than he'd like.

I think we'll see something like Rogues first before Flash arrives. Something to develop those characters first.

>>149471923
I'd be surprised if Gunn really was building up to a CoIE movie before doing Final Crisis or something like that first. Darkseid seems like it'd be a more sensible Endgame situation although that might be a tad bit derivative. But it'd make sense.

Gunn keeps saying that no one is expecting what his "Chapter 1" is building up to. I think Darkseid is too derivative of Thanos (and Snyder already tried it). And the "Multiverse collapse" is currently being done by Marvel.

I really don't think Gunn wants to mimic anything thats been attempted.

Creature Commandos teased a grim future with Gorilla Grodd being the big bad.
Leaks persistently said it was all building up to The Centre and the plan is to do a "modern day" version of The New Frontier to bring the League together.
A new leak that got posted to co last week (yeah I know, heavy skepticism) said the big bad will be The Reach from Blue Beetle

>>149472474
I think there's baggage with GL, The Flash, and Aquaman. I think Lanterns is really going to establish to audiences that Hal, John, and Guy (and whatever alien corps are teased) are more like a team than a solo hero. I could see a Green Lantern Corps movie with some other DC space characters if Gunn wants to have a cosmic corner.

They need to put Aquaman to bed for awhile and reacclimate Momoa to audiences as Lobo.

Ezra left a bad taste in peoples mouths. even before Gunn can introduce Wally, I think The Rogues will be the angle. Flash might not even get a solo movie. He might just be a team player in the JL and/or Teen Titans and be the "antagonist" of a Rogues project.

God, WB really fucked themselves by hiring Snyder and letting Marvel beat them to the punch, didn't they?

Darkseid should 100% by the big DC baddie and I think he's distinctive enough from Thanos to work, since he's all about conquering the universe and exerting control over all living things. But to general audiences, he might be too similar.

That said, I do agree that Gunn might want to actually do something different. I could see Chapter 1 ending with a modernized New Frontier with The Centre as the bad guy.

>I think Lanterns is really going to establish to audiences that Hal, John, and Guy (and whatever alien corps are teased) are more like a team than a solo hero. I could see a Green Lantern Corps movie with some other DC space characters if Gunn wants to have a cosmic corner.
I was just thinking that. But instead of being more like a team, it'll focus on a couple of Earth Lanterns and feature some alien Lanterns as prominent side characters. Granted, making it more of an ensemble seems like more of a Gunn thing too.

>even before Gunn can introduce Wally, I think The Rogues will be the angle. Flash might not even get a solo movie. He might just be a team player in the JL and/or Teen Titans and be the "antagonist" of a Rogues project.

Better yet, I think Darkseid should be the greater over-arching villain of the entire DCU, the same way Superman is the greater over-arching hero. We don’t have to go full Grant Morrison and wink at the camera with meta bullcrap, just have that in the back of your mind as a guiding principle

I'm a Wally fan and I'd be fine with this approach. A solo Wally Flash movie would just more of the same that we saw from the CW show, just on a bigger budget.

IMO we're past the point of "traditional" movie capeshit. We don't need origin stories anymore. We've seen all the cliches, across Sony-Disney-WB.

And we don't need "dark, edgy grim & gritty" post modernism anymore.

Just jump in "in media res" and give us the fun interplay and back&forths and setpieces

Offer some off-beat approaches to telling the same old traditional capeshit stories

It's very hard to do The Authority in the DC universe. The stakes are too high, their actions too all encompassing. How do you adapt anything from Ellis or Miller's runs without making the audience wonder why the Justice League isn't dealing with it or why all the Earth altering events aren't completely changing the status quo in the other movies.

But, no, Darksied is overused, and has been for years. There shouldn't be a "bad guy" for the universe or whatever. My hope is that they get out of the MCU "all these movies are building to a big event movie," shit they've been trying to do for over a decade. They just need to make good movies.

That's crazy bc iirc in the Silver Age and Bronze Age, he was one of the bigger JL villains. I guess he's like LoSH.

Well, I'd still love to see Darkseid as a prominent bad guy, and a huge threat but while I think the DCU is building up to something, I think the 'structure' of the universe is going to differ a lot from the MCU.

Gunn has said that the big team up movie at the end of the Chapter (I think?) will be something no one's really expecting.
