Crumb was making an edgy tribute to the hippie era while Bakshi made a scathing indictment of that whole thing and basically showcased how it died and rotted. Crumb comics are really good, but Bakshi made something genuinely profound with somewhat juvenile material.

I don't think you know Crumb. He was as critical of hippie culture if not even more so than Bakshi. Frtiz was always meant to be a piece of shit. Though the comics are definitely more edgy and filled with more shock value than Bakshi's version
