After three successful seasons (and a fourth on the way) of The Legend of Vox Machina, based on the group's first table-top adventure, The Mighty Nein now adapts the core events of Campaign 2. And, sure enough, Entertainment Weekly's exclusive first look at the spinoff show features six (not nine!) of the new band of misfits... at least for now.

The Mighty Nein takes place in the same fantasy world as The Legend of Vox Machina, called Exandria. But instead of the land of Tal'Dorei, the series hones in on a completely different continent, known as Wildemount, which hosts the Dwendalian Empire to the west, the Kryn Dynasty to the east, and the Menagerie Coast along the sea. The show also takes place many years after the events of Vox Machina. However, Tasha Huo, The Mighty Nein showrunner and EP, promises "a lot of fun intersections" between the two animated series.

As seen in EW's sneak peek, Riegel voices Nott The Brave, a foul-mouthed alcoholic goblin girl who's a master of stealth and crossbow; Liam O'Brien voices Caleb Widogast, a disheveled human wizard adept at fire magic; Marisha Ray voices Beauregard Lionett, a human monk of the Cobalt Soul order who's part MMA fighter, part kick-ass detective; Laura Bailey voices Jester Lavorre, a blue-skinned tiefling and a prankster whose best friend is an invisible god named the Traveler; Travis Willingham voices Fjord Stone, an orphaned half-orc sailor who washes ashore after a shipwreck with mysterious magical powers; and Taliesin Jaffe voices Mollymauk Tealeaf, a purple-skinned tiefling who serves as a flamboyant tarot reader for a traveling carnival. Not seen is the character played by another crucial Critical Role member; Ashley Johnson will voice the role of Yasha Nydoorin, a barbarian woman and a roving mercenary from the wastes of Xhorhas in the Kryn Dynasty.

Depends on the game and vibe you want. Maybe you are interested in the storytelling, maybe you are into the wargaming and number crunching aspect of it. Depending on the players and dungeonmaster it can be following a story or collaboratively building your own. The dungeon master of Critical Role for example ususally heavily weaves the backgrounds of his players characters into the game. Imagine it kinda like playing Baldurs Gate 3 but you can literally do whatever the fuck you want, even if it goes against script

Yes and no. The DM is more like a moderator than the one driving the story, if they're actually worth a damn at least. They normally lay down the framework of a story, but the true meat of everything comes down to the dice rolls. They determine if any action, no matter how epic or mundane, fail or succeed. The narrative flows entirely based on those, and it's where improvisation and dare I say ___fun______ comes into play. Critical Role was no exception, they just went and animated thier tabletop sessions after the fact.

5e didn't turn Firbolgs into ugly cow people, that was entirely Critical Role fans. 5e Firbolgs were just magical Giantkin with some fey/elf like features. Matt Mercer was trying to come up with descriptors for his Firbolg NPC's face and described his nose as broad and flat "like a cows", not literally but just as in the general shape of it. But Fanartists who couldn't be bothered to google the character's face decided to take that literally and draw the NPC as some kind of freaky cow man. And because of all that fanart, when one of the PC characters played a Firbolg themselves, they decided to also make their character a cow man basically solidifying Firbolgs as ugly cow people in the eyes of the Critical Role fanbase, which naturally bled into how they were depicted by other 5e players unrelated to CR.

Also Vox Machina/C1 started as Matt Mercer's private campaign for his VA friends, so the players simply made the characters they wanted to play as. They only started streaming it way later when their story arcs got established.
That's the difference between Vox Machina and Mighty Nein. With Vox Machina, the players created the characters they themselves thought are cool, with Mighty Nein they created characters they thought their audience thought are cool.

Jester- cleric, Blueberry tiefling flavored Manic pixie dream girl. actually likable in small doses.
Mollymauk- imagine the witcher only as a really gay tiefling. Dies early on, gets replaced with a much less interesting furry cleric character
Fjord- half orc with a cursed sword connected to some evil sea god. Actually ok by CR standards. Hooks up with the girl tiefling
Yasha- Barbarian dyke, hooks up with NotKora. by far the most forgettable character in the campaign. Turns evil npc briefly because the voice actress had better shit to do than show up for sessions
