I have seen bits and pieces of a very rough cut of supergirl, and here’s what I’ve seen:

we see Kara get shitfaced on a regular basis in this movie. Her favourite alcohol is a ripoff of wray and nephew, as it’s a green and yellow bottle that’s 63%. She mixes white and dark liquor, and some of her friends even snort substances. Her blacking out is used as a device to see her self destructive personality, and talk about her trauma. The main theme about the film is that yes your trauma isn't your fault, but you need to take responsibility for yourself. She gets into bar fights, says racist shit to alien species etc. It’s not about getting sober, it’s about being functional, and not hurting others. Lobo also steals the show, has plenty of funny lines and tries hooking up with supergirl. Movie is also really brutal, using different colored alien blood to do this.

What I’ve seen was genuinely great, and I see why it’s the second film in the DCU. I also will not answer any other questions.

can we just have an appealing, traditional female character in media again.

Superhero movies have never appealed to female audiences, even when they’re explicitly by and for women. The only time I can think of when a Superhero movie with a woman as the headliner has been financially successful was Captain Marvel.
