Why did this movie cost 450 million to make and market?

Could have been profitable if it was reasonably budgeted

Man of Steel did incredible numbers, it was one of the highest grossing films of 2013.
If Superman was doing the same numbers as Joker 2, I'd be worried.

Lol this blatant shilling. Man of Steel underperfromed in WB's eyes. That's why they shoved Batman and Wonder Woman in the sequel. And that was in 2013. Adjust for inflation and that movie made 940 million dollars in 2025 money. Superman isn't going anywhere near 900 million.

>Man of Steel underperfromed in WB's eyes. That's why they shoved Batman and Wonder Woman in the sequel.
Totally nonsensical. Superman Returns underperformed and they didn't give it a sequel with Batman and Wonder Woman, they killed it. Franchise movies that underperform don't get sequels.
They shoved Batman and Wonder Woman into BvS because they wanted to rush a DC cinematic universe that could compete with Marvel's cinematic universe. Man of Steel performed so well they figured it could be the starting point for that universe. Movies that underperform don't become starting points for massive cinematic universes. Remember The Mummy? It was supposed to start Universal's Dark Universe. After it underperformed, they didn't make a sequel with Dracula and Frankenstein, they just cancelled the whole thing.
Man of Steel made 940 million dollars in 2025 money. That is an astounding amount of money. It made that much because it didn't underperform. Man of Steel did very well in theaters, which is why it was the 9th highest grossing film of 2013.
