>>149528827I love KotH but it’s always been a bit too comfortable with punching down at outcasts often lacking self awareness on the matter.
Like when Hank walks in on a deformed computer nerd kid or joking about bills depression, Vietnam vets “being pussies about PTSD”, substances abusers and the mentally ill often being antagonists and the solution normally being getting them away. There’s even an episode where that employee the Buck basically treated like a personal prostitute and she’s clearly not right in the head and she accidentally kills herself in a fucking dumpster (implying she is trash) and we’re not even meant to feel bad for her.
I don’t think it’s intentional, it’s an easier way to write. They’re just not interested or privy to the reasons why people act the way they do: only simply that their unconventional behaviour is problematic and thus so are they—regardless of the reasons that they’re like this
>Oh luanne’s mom is an alcoholic excon who is only calm while sober? Oh and bill gave her a bunch of beer? Let’s see her get humiliated and beat up by Peggy in front of everyone and then go back to prison. The moral of the story is: it’s a good thing Luanne isn’t like her :)
