It makes sense that he wouldn't be enraged that the thing died. It WAS endangering lives and other people making to judgment call to kill it is understandable. He would have PREFERRED to let it live but superman is less about hard lines in the sand and more about approaching things case by case and dealing with the consequences, which is what the movie is about.
