I don't care.
How many tv show spinoff series have you seen at this point that have absolutely no bearing on the universe as a whole. Seriously, do you think this matters at all?

Because Jimmy Olsen is awesome.
Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen is legitimately one of the best comics from the Silver and Bronze Ages. He's a fun character, a normal kid who befriended Superman and now he constantly gets in over his head in sci-fi shenanigans.

You have terminal franchise-brain. Why does it need to have a bearing on the universe as a whole? Why can't it just tell fun stories and be a good series in its own right?

Because it isn't a series in it's own right it's a spinoff.

If they just made a jimmy Olsen show fine whatever. But it's not it's specifically using the Jimmy from the movie and advertising the introduction of Gorilla Grodd into this franchise.

So what specifically about it being a spin off means it can't just be fun?

YES YES YES
EXACTLY

The fact that some freckled gangly man child has rizz and can get laid and y'all can barely scrape together enough money from your wage slave jobs to try to convince a street walker to give you a handsy has nothing to do with it, amirite!?!

Business?
Spinoffs are always cash grabs from existing properties, ALWAYS. And some times when a property has run it's course, a spinoff can be sorta fun a second chance or fresh start with some popular characters or material. But most of the time especially when the original is still running it's a funnel or a wide cast net to pull in viewers outside or beyond the original medias interest. Like every time, I struggle to think when that is not the case. And because it is the case the spinoff is not allowed to progress naturally and is forced to make concessions for the sake of the "leading" media. But also because it's just a spinoff and because it is the lesser of the two it has no impact on the main media. So it's in a position where it's pressured to make unnatural changes and has no power to correct those from on high changes.

This shit goes back to Joanie loves Chachi (Happy Days spinoff).

Why can't it be about Jimmy Olsen and his friendship with Superman? Let the scrimblos get introduced organically. This is just stupid.

You must be retarded if you think you can say that based on two images.
The Superman movie was already going somewhat in the direction of wacky sci-fi shenanigans, the Olsen series could easily lean further into that direction.

A Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen movie sequel/spinoff adapting some of that comic series most iconic and crazy stories would be unimaginably fucking KINO and the easiest sell ever.
What the fuck is wrong with these producers?
