Usually, Bruce is sort of the main problem in a lot of these scenarios. Like he's a bad dad, or he does some retarded paranoia-fueled bullshit that pisses everyone off, or he's turned into a rich white strawman for Barbara to bitch about. Most of the time when he fights the Batfamily, it's at least partially his fault. Even in Batman VS Robin, while Damien was in the wrong, a lot of it was fueled by Bruce's absolute inability to be a halfway decent dad.

This might just be one of the few times where that might not be the case.

According to some stunt guys, it's pretty functional as a weapon. Not amazing, or better than other traditonal melee weapons, but it's functional and it would do the job as advertised if wielded by someone with intent to harm or kill.

It's functional, but still impractical. The reason dual-bladed weapons (or whatever the bat'eth is) aren't ideal is for two reasons: one, the shape of the weapon restricts the wielder's range of movement. Despite its length, you can't really take advantage of it because it can only be held in its center. Despite being as long as a spear, its effective range is only as long as a longsword at best. As a result, choreography for the weapon tends to look kinda awkward and stilted and it's hard to really put your full weight behind it so you can't even use it for raw brute force.

Still, it's not like you can't use it to kill someone. But you'd probably rather have a sword, or better yet, a spear.
