If I were to guess, Peacock wants to try and get a slice of the Family Guy pie but it can't, so it's using an existing thing they already have the rights to and are going to pivot into making it like your typical MacFarlane show.

It's actually about cost. They did a Ted TV show that was live action, but each episode apparently costed as much as the first movie did to produce. It actually was pretty funny and the CG for Ted looked amazing.

I heard somewhere that Ted was originally thought up as a potential animated sitcom pitch when MacFarlane was still working for HannaBarbera back in the '90s, so I think it'd be really cool if things came full circle and this new show were designed to be reminiscent of animated sitcoms from that era. It's a longshot, but there's a chance MacFarlane hasn't forgotten his TV animation roots.
