You're partly right. Aladdin is one of the few Disney movies that plays out as a traditional hero's story aimed at men which is why it remains very popular with both men and women alike.

I think as generations get older and get into creative industries, collective ideas of said generation permeate in whatever works are produced (animation, music, games etc.). I think it's just the overall symptom of younger generation's collective ethos meshing uncomfortably with older generations art as the latter fades out as the new comes in. I think it's most apparent in the mid 2010s, where lots of trendy ideas start to appear at the same time that older trends go out of style, but ina much more black and white way.
