I hate to be "that guy" but imho they made him extra vindictive and petty because in Kirby's original rendition he is basically a stand in for God and modern Hollywood hates God in any way and will always make him dumb/evil and vindictive whereas in Kirby's portrayal its a respectable sort of ominous force of nature that is clearly extremely wise and curious, respects intellect. Only future authors dumbed down his prose and character somewhat because he kept being reused so many times if anything

This was not nearly as good as initial review were trying to say.
There's some novelty in how they designed the world but the movie is really plain and slow paced and it really lacks big kickass moments.

Did the comics reveal the 'point' of Galactus right away or was that a later thing? Understandably its better to cover some things earlier in movies because the pacing needs to be compressed some, but also not every part of the lore necessarily adds to the current story being told

I think so, we are currently in the 7th "cosmos" in marvel lore. Galactus was the only guy to survive the 5th Cosmos, the majority of marvel timeline takes place in the 6th. Galactus was some tech genius who gained mystical powers and him and the Elders of the Universe are the only survivors.

It always comes down with them failing so that a girlboss can rescue them and beat them up. Meanwhile female heroes never get defeated or rescued by white men.
