What interesting stuff has come out from the public domain? We all know about the cheap horror movies they did with Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh. I hope we could get something great from Popeye or Tintin. There are also lot of public domain superheroes. I think someone here has a chart of that.

Public Domain is pointless when trademarks still exist.

You can still work around trademarks. It sucks but doable.

That was Alex Ross who drew a bunch of public domain superheroes. Here it is.

In recent years? Nothing because the only players touching modern public domain entries are just interested in making subversive horror slop. You can't make a cute Winnie the Pooh movie where he goes on a fun adventure with Christopher Robin, instead it has to be a grim horror movie with lots of blood and death. Its not interesting and you're not being clever.

Okay, but why would you make a comic featuring characters nobody knows about when you could just as well make comics featuring characters nobody knows about that you own?

Use them enough, and the trademark will lose its strength, like it happened to dry ice

It was a commission for a group about public domain music. I would check for specifics but the artist recently nuked their Deviantart account. Weird. It was still up last week.
