>smartest man on the planet
>all his tech looks like heckin 60s and isn't entirely revolutionary
>stands around gawking the entire time, never takes the reigns or acts with any authority
>literally has a line where he goes "there's something wrong with me" referring to his intellect, and says it's a mistake for fathers wanting their sons to be like them
>his big brain plan, after scenes upon scenes of doing nothing is to... teleport the Earth
Aside from getting a Basque to play a WASP, aside from him being a limited actor, aside from his face looking like melted wax, the guy brought literally nothing on the table that resembled Reed in virtually any facet. He was just a generic anxious dad scientist without any backbone.

RDJ's Stark is literally RDJ playing RDJ, but both him and Rufallo actually manage to come off as supergeniuses. Fagscal is literally just some anxious and bumbling moron that comes off more as head of a pencil factory than anything else.

It takes place in the 60s though. Retro future was just futuristic back then. These designs would have been revolutionary. While are you so dumb?

Early Reed had limits. They all did. Like how Johnny could only stay alight for 5m at a time and needed a short rest.
They are in process of constantly evolving as they use their powers. This is how they retconned Sue from simple invisibility to hardlight constructs as part of her control over force.
Ben has had several stories of him further evolving into a rock monster with his final point being some lava rock monster.

His motivations are a bit more personal in the film. The hunger is still there, but he's actually invested for once since he thanks that by getting Franklin, he can pass on his mantle and finally put an end to his hunger.

Why do you faggots keep lying? Senor Fantastico is nothing like any kind of Reed. He's an undecisive wet dog with no leadership skills who wanders like a lost puppy, has no authority, doubts his own intelligence and turns into a wimp when he's "depressed". 616 Reed always assumed command, and turned to anger when put under too much pressure and "depression". He's never seen his intelligence as something "wrong", which is a quote from the flick. Senor Fantastico is the very antithesis of him.

I disagree. Reed's leadership skills are displayed throught the film, commanding all scientific and heroico endeavors. Reed always turns reclusive in the comics when put under an impossible situación, or at least when the plot focused on character rather than action (see the OG Galactus trilogy or the Bridge). He doesn't curse his intelligence in the film, what he's reserved after is the general way he is. While not outright stated, It's basically spelled they're going for autist Reed, and actually make it a point to have him deal with that instead of shying away from it.

You realize a lot of things that can be done with big, fancy digital computers can also be done with more analog technology, right? Just because something LOOKS more 'futuristic' doesn't necessarily mean it's more advanced.

>While not outright stated, it's basically spelled they're going for autist Reed
Yeah, that's pretty much my impression.
The idea was clearly that modern diagnoses like autism and other general spazmogrifications weren't prevalent in the 60's, and presumably, the 60's parallel the F4 reside within in this film. It's interesting, because the biographies of many our greatest historic scientists do tend to have the recurring motif of strange, offbeat character traits, rituals, or habits. I'm sure many of them came to the same conclusion in their own minds.
What I've always wondered is if there's a self-fulfilling prophetical nature to the formal diagnosis of a condition like autism in any person. Would being conscious that they are different, separate even psychologically from the rest of their peers, nurture traits such as Sonic-Diaper-Obsession, simply because being aware might instil a certain liberty that they are expected and permitted to have bizarre idiosyncrasies.
A sequel that explores an alternate evil autistically-conscious version of Reed that's obsessed with Mole-Man's feet for instance, could be extremely worth exploring, a dramatic sensation, even.
