Well things have really changed since then.

Manga is just a "Latest fad".
Like the internet, and cell phones, they won't be around by next year.

I think they're is quite a few political and satirical Manga's in Japanese newspapers and magazines not sure if they've existed over the years or are real.

I agree on the sentiment.
Can a series survive out of its local set of circumstances? A lot of the battle shounen clearly did.
But there is a lot more auteur stuff like Wombs and Mother Sarah that also do. Or when you get self biographical , like Azuma and his disappearance diary.

I also love how a boomer cartoonist who is completely out of touch, manage to occasionally really hit homeruns.

Comic books made after the end of the 90s are basically only useful as toilet paper so it's not weird to compare 2 products that are used to clean stuff.
