The problem is that with these huge budgets (both for production and for advertising), they're reliant on these films being global hits. The most you can make domestically is between 300-400 million, with rare exceptions like Now Way Home or Inside Out 2. Studios only take around half of that for themselves, the other half going to theatrical distributors. Physical media is also pretty much dead, there's no money to get from auxiliaries. So they need to cut the budgets SIGNIFICANTLY if these are going to turn to purely domestic plays.
