Man I forgot how on point the MMO jokes are. Now that I have actually played one they are even funnier.

Are all jokes WoW related or there was another popular MMO during the 00s?
I didn't get into them until the 10s
For anyone joining now, here's the Wotch storyline threads too since Cheer is a spinoff of it

>>149570407Mainly about WOW, but I do like the inclusion of the WOW RPG book
>>149569708It is defunct now but it had a ton of good stuff, and way better world building then the slop WOW been putting out since after the second expansion.
Just about about 99% of the jokes work for any MMO of the 00s since they where all copying WOW.
>>149570201You're doing good OP

Is this going to be the last thread?
>>149570608Not OP, just a fan with severe electrical issues that don't allow me to keep an eye on the thread at all times, or draw something for that matter
>>149570680Outside of the story stuff the artist posted after the comic ended, most likely. Unless the Wotch randomly gets a new artist and starts to upload on a schedule again, then maybe a new thread might be made.
>>149570680I mean, an anon delivered new fanart last thread, so that was cool.
>>149570599>>149570680yes unless you want to make a thread merely for discussion.
>>149570823The action of this and the Wotch is surprisingly good.
>>149570923>website comment; The previous comic was the LAST comic made for Cheer!.
I hope you enjoyโd Cheer!
Thatยดs all for now folks.
Im posting the artistยดs related art here with his comments later.
>>149570931There's some tragic poetry on who both the wotch and cheer has a sudden art shift then stopped updating
>>149570923Giving this monster more detail makes it look worse, now he looks like a BDSM Digimon.
>>149571001>looks like a BDSM Digimon.So, a regular Digimon?
>>149570974That's expected, Wotch seems to be writen and draw by the same guy. If probably was short on time, and because of that had to find a new artist, but in the end it didn't work out.
I also wonder if he even was allowed to continue the comic, considering that The Wotch stopped updating. There is a certain crossover of characters that complicates things a bit.
How many years have been since the comic ended?
>>149569615 (OP)ANYWAY
What was your general impressions of Cheer! ?
I stand by my last post
>>149559557
>>149571030Is the weird lips that makes me uncomfortable, is reminds me too much of a dorse
>>149570773That was me
>>149570974Btw does someone knows who the artists of this few pages is? The same for whoever made the last part of the Wotch.
>>149570931Sigh it is always a bit sad rereading Cheer, you can tell it had just hit a stride as a great comic.
The art was great and characters fun and engaging. Alex, Lita, Jo, and Sam worked great as a core team, with something for anybody to interact and bounce off of.
32, and 29, are great supporting characters. You can tell they where in the same role as Miranda from the Wotch. But unlike Miranda 32, and 29 are both good people, that would have the Cheersquad back, and give them the support they could get away with, even being willing to doge their bosses notice.
>>149569820The inclusion of Karen and her little arc was amazing. A better tale was told in those few panels then entire decades, of other comics.
>>149569820Glad we managed to see Karen Ming and Wolfy in their custom uniforms as well
>>149571042Like a lot of other anonymous said, it's pretty good and it seemed that I had just started to hit its stride. It's quite a shame that both Cheer and the Wotch got cut off so short, I would've loved to see how both would've finished their stories.
Sent a note to the artist/writer on DA to see if he would have interest in doing a Q&A here. Also thanks OP for the storytime.
>>14957117532 and 29 have an insane amount of chemistry with the cast and each other.
>>149571313I think being much shorter than Wotch would favor Cheer. Like finishing this arc, and maybe one or two more arcs to wrap things up would have been good. I think a lot of these type of comics suffer from either being cut short, or going for so long that character development and consequences become difficult to handle.
----
You know what. Guys let me know if you have any CHEER! drawing requests, I might sketch something fast.
>>149571042Is not what I was expecting but is pretty Good. It starts a little slow but maybe its just me expecting it to be like The Wotch, its actually more character driven and I think does a good job making you care for this cheerleaders and the side characters. I enjoy the fact that the cheerleaders are the underdogs, they are not the queens of school and they trying to push the school spirit on their apathetic classmates makes it endearing, I think that alone could have been the whole comic and it would have been interesting. Itโs a shame the comic ended just as if was starting to introduce the more serious plot thread and they just teased the whole lost of identity thing.
>>149571362The main four in MMO outfits, or maybe Magical gir uniforms. Your choice
>>149571362A full line up of all 7 cheerleaders in their custom uniforms please. It the one thing we never got.
>>149571175My favourite thing about cheer is the characterization, the main cast felt strong and didn't feel like the story depended on what happened to the characters but what they wanted to do.
I agree with the feeling that just 2 or 3 more chapters would wrap the story nicely without having to let loose ends.
Overall I'm just sad that my favourite character didn't get to do much in the last chapter and tha sam never got to do much at the story besides a few moments. It felt like the author had much more interest in Alex and Lita.
>>149571362I'm open to requests too please let me keep this little obsession for a little longer.
>>149571175>with something for anybody to interact and bounce off of.You sly mfer.
Okay, but it always sucks when a story webcomic (especially a good one like this) suddenly just dips without so much as the time of day. I remember waiting for that new page of RPG World that never came...
>>149571453Yeah Sam was sadly underutilized in general but when everyone else had such strong personalities the meek one is gonna be overshadowed no matter what
And I'm not sure if I'll be able to deliver but what the hell, I'm taking requests too, if this thread last long enough for the power company to fix my problem I'll try to get them done as fast as I can
>>149571613If I recall, OP said last thread the artists deviantart has some post story commentary and he was planning on posting that after the rest of the comic was posted.
People called Alex a Tomboy but King is much more of a tomboy. I actually find funny in an ironic way how she tends to end up in male roles/situations.
>>149571855She comes of more like a theater girl.
>>149570974Guess artist seem to be the symptoms that something wrong is going on behind stage.
>>149571855Alex is definitely the tomboy of the group reading this, especially with the military Otaku aspect of her.
>>149571155It's too much of a hassle to check the one from cheer atm, but the artist from wotch is Shieltar, lots of furry stuff tho
>>149571613>I remember waiting for that new page of RPG World that never came...Anon don't you know...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CZ--Nt3GUQ
>>149571613>I remember waiting for that new page of RPG World that never came...Anon don't you know... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CZ--Nt3GUQ
>>149572094I feel it's especially crippling when the artist is also the main writer too, like with Anne. I'm not sure exactly how Cheer was organized, but it is safe to say the main artist leaving is a sign that the comic should wrap up soon.
>ANYTHING IN THE NEXT POSTS IS GOING TO BE QUOTES FROM THE AUTHOR
While I've not often posted Cheer!-related images here, I figured I'd do so for once in the hope of getting some more feedback.
This is a random get-back-into-the-swing-of-things image I turned into a filler... Alex and Bree taking a time out from their adventure.
A bit less than two hours, pencils on regular old plain paper. This image, Alex and Bree are copyright me. If you'd like to see more of them, check out my comic Cheer!

I will get that watermelon some day... Some day...
Actually a filler image I created for Cheer!, I thought I'd add it here as it's one of the few finished renditions of myself.
...well, it kind of looks like me anyway.
Because sometimes words are not enough.
When writing the most recent page of Cheer! (as seen here), I tried to think of the most harmless sounding but still potentially aggressive opponent a small, well armed military squad could face. Space Penguins... armed with kittens.
Of course, when I started imagining what such a force would look like, a funny image came to mind... a funny image I felt needed a more visual approach.
Space Penguins: More Deadly Than You Think.
Because sometimes you have to look forward.
Just a sketch of what I think my main characters from my comic Cheer! may look like when they're in College or University. From left to right, it's Lita, Alex, Jo and Sam.
It occurred to me that, of all my comic characters, the one that most suffers from being drawn greyscale is Bree. When you're dealing with humans, skin tone can be implied by the shade of the pencil, as most people range from white to brown and everywhere in between, but what about poor Bree? I've heard people guess she's green, and others guess she's blue...
So I figured I'd establish her correct colours by colouring her. Unfortunately I didn't take my time or do anything special... it's an uninspired pose with terrible line art. And I sabotaged myself by playing with lighting. (She's not quite as dark and purply as this image makes her out to be) But at least she's coloured now.
Now, maybe I should actually draw another comic page one of these days....
>>149572645>Lita is a alt-girl>Jo wears a cross>Alex has dogtags>Sam looks straight outta Home Ec.Checks out, would marry.
>>149572660Grayscale comics need good character designs to stand out, reading EGS I have problems telling which character is which because they sort of looks similar while also changing designs semi often.
>>149572645If Lita is Gay for Alex does that mean, he was gay back when they where jocks?
>>149571362Well, this has been a blast from the past! Thanks to OP for posting and all of you for the interest! I've never used 4chan before, but I can certainly try to answer some questions if anyone has any.
>>149572886There's 2 options,
>Lita was already attracted to alex and therefore is gay in any form>Lita is attracted to Alex now cause she is a girl, and Lita is attracted to girls in any form
No matter where she goes, Alex makes friends.
:icondaitou:'s inking of Kendolyn inspired me to do more dramatic power zappy pictures. However, as I've been trying to stick to practicing Cheer! so as to return to comicking, the only character I could do was Alex. Not that I mind... Alex rocks.
It strikes me that I can't remember the last martial arts movie I've seen. I've gotta watch some and study the kind of stances and poses they get into. I'm rather lacking in variety...
>>149573016 Tackling the most obvious question, why was the comic never finished? Were the next episodes already planned?
>>149573016Neato.
I'm curious. How much of the comic you had planned? Did you had an end in mind?
>>149572886>>149552249Lita all but finished a sentence to being attracted to Alex even pre girl.
>>149573016Were you thinking in exploring a bit of the past of the characters before they were transformed?
Honestly I think that Jo's internal monologue over her transformation is the signature scene of the comic, I'd love to see it explored more, maybe with the other girls. Alex does seem to have some subconscious notion of it.
>>149573016First of all welcome, hope you like it here, who's the artist who did those last pages?
>>149571362>You know what. Guys let me know if you have any CHEER! drawing requests, I might sketch something fast.Samantha like that guy imagined her.
>>149572886Yuribait is not romance, even if it's cute.
>Also sorry if quoting your old posts feels weird with u being here already
After drawing the Cheer! girls looking rather sour, sad and/or angry, I figured something a little more cheerful was in order. So combining that with a need to remind myself what the girls' fantasy outfits look like and a stiff breeze resulted in this! Enjoy!
>>149573016I'm curious about how this project started, Where the cheerleaders fan favorites in the community? did you like them that much or where you approached to do it?
It's been so long since I let my characters express themselves, my comic lacking entirely in updates for far too many moons to conveniently count... I needed to let them out, and this is the result. And the result is generally disapproving.
The entire 'permanent' cheer squad generally being upset with me in their various ways. Everyone but Karen anyway. What does that say about her?... or me I guess?
>>149573108While reading it all in Storytime like this might make it seem like it cut off abruptly, in truth it was a long, dwindling process of increasingly slow posts. The main reason was that instead of developing a style that was quick and, therefore, could keep up with the original MWF schedule, I got bogged down making my art better but way slower. Add to that some action mega pages and life getting more lifey, and I just couldn't keep up.
>>149573016Welcome!
I was wondering if you had some sort of conclusion planned out, or at least a rough idea about how you wanted the finale of the comic to be like.
The first in a series of drawings I did while at a conference this past week, this marks a return to having a pencil in my hand at all as well as some familiar old characters. While I say first, this was actually the second drawing I did, and you can still feel the cobwebs being shaken off in the wobbly lines and uneven proportions... but without it there is no complete set, so post I must!
This picture references something that's always been there in the characters of Cheer! but had never made it explicitly into the story. Why does Jo hang out with Kal (and by extension Alison)? Well, while they do tend to get along fairly well, Jo and Kal are also family... cousins. It's sometimes difficult to know what Kal feels about the situation, Jo is very fond of her equal-aged relation.
Drawn with unfamiliar pencils and without internet access for references. Don't worry, the other three are much better!
>>149573016Why is Lita such a NERD! (Form le sexy)
Also good work on the writing, was a fun read.
>>149573122When I started the comic, I had no plan whatsoever. All I had were some personalities I had come up with while drawing them as a piece of fan art for The Wotch. By the end I had a pretty solid idea of the next chapter, a rough outline for maybe two or three more chapters and a pretty good idea of the ending. Far from a complete script, but I definitely had a plan by then!
The second in the series of conference sketches, this one may be pretty rough too, but I do think I did a much better job with the overall feel. And hey! Lita!
I don't know if I've ever drawn April smiling before... her sour, dark disposition being a key part of her character. But nobody has a single side, and she's no exception! Here she is enjoying the sadly almost extinct fun that can be had with split screen gaming with her sister, Cher. Or Rain and Lita, depending if it's from the perspective of her other family members or not. Neither of them will admit it, but they do have a lot in common as the middle children of the family.
Does anyone actually own bat pajama pants? I sure hope so...
The third of the series of conference sketches... or actually the fourth drawn, since the first was also Alex and Bree, only really bland and not too well drawn. So I re-drew them like this and was far happier!
*ding* Gratz!
While Alex would intellectually criticize many of the weird and unrealistic tropes that litter your standard MMO, I get the feeling she'd get caught up in the whole leveling thing... the achievements, the accomplishments and, of course, the increased power. So the idea for cheerful RPG Alex was born, and I really like how she turned out! And Bree, of course, is just happy to be with her... I have not come up with a word that describes how Bree sees Alex, so I'm going to stick with Companion for now.
There are proportion issues and I don't like how I ran out of paper before I finished Bree... but despite all that, this is by far my favorite of the conference series. I think I may have to try to color it some day soon!
The fourth and final of the conference series, it's time for Sam!
Sam was by far the most troublesome of the quartet... mostly due to a sad lack of character development in Cheer! thus far penned. While there are plenty of plans and ideas, at this point there wasn't any easy-to-draw pairing for the creative component of the squad.
The obvious choice was her Dad, since that's the relationship that most defines Sam as a person. Sadly, however, I'm still highly inept at drawing men. Girls are my default, and thus when I try to draw a guy, I end up concentrating too much on how to make him "not a girl", which tends to lead towards inhuman rather than masculine. Even referencing the comic, my few attempts to draw Mr. Smith failed so utterly horribly that I ended up scrapping his involvement for my own sanity (and the fact I really wanted to finish Sam's picture). Sam's pose and expression was good though (originally drawn to be looking over and up at her much much larger Dad)... so to salvage that part of the comic, I went for a little touch of a Juliette reference and went for Rob. While it's never been depicted in the comic, it was always my though that they were enjoying the early days of a high school romance, so that works. And Rob isn't nearly as large-manly-man as Mr. Smith, so he's a lot easier to draw.
Do people still refer to young couples as "sweethearts"? I'm not sure... but the only other thing I could think of is "lovers", and that always implies a much more mature and physical relationship that these two certainly don't have at this point.
>>149573290I'm curious now. What were the arcs you had planed? We're you thinking in tackling Alex's parents? We're there going to be an arc focusing on Sam?
I wouldn't usually consider this worthy of a gallery submission, but it's been a really long time since I uploaded anything... might as well remind everyone I'm alive with a little personal nostalgia!
After reading through El Goonish Shive again, I got inspired, remembering the good old days when I had creative thoughts and the time to put them on paper. So after filling up several pages with characters old and new, I ended up here... reminding myself where I left the Cheer! girls. And then I challenged myself to a five minute background (which for me is stupidly fast) and now I'm pretending it's good enough to upload here.
Of course now when I think "WoW", the first thing that pops into my head is World of Warships. I'm working my way up the Japanese line... currently tier five.
>>149573180I'm afraid I never intended Cheer! to be an exploration of the transformational origins of the girls. In my mind, I treated them all as if they were always girls. The story with Jo was a way to nod at that past as well as hint at her powers, but that was going to be about it.
The Peter/Hailey character was going to delve more into that issue, but never so much as to become a major focus of the story.
>>149573182daitwo on Deviantart, although they haven't been active there in quite a while. Still, a good friend at the time who did a bunch of fan art over the years.
>>149573290Damn, what was the rough outline you had sketched out?
>>149573234I can't recall if the cheerleaders were popular or not at the time. All I know is I drew a piece of fan art, "Fan Service", where I drew a large number of the Wotch girls in swimsuits. I included the cheerleaders there and, while drawing them, came up with personalities and decided I wanted to draw them as a comic... the eleventh or so comic idea I had, and the first and only to get off the ground.
I really miss the good ol' days of webcomics. I used to have a bookmark list of them a mile long. Now I've only got two or three old holdouts still chugging along.
>>149573264The conclusion is about the only thing I had a very solid idea for. So short answer, yes! Of course how I actually got to that conclusion and how long a meandering road it would have been is a mystery.
>>149573287Some girls like table top gaming! Lita is one of those girls!
Though I will admit that this was a strong case of "write what you know."
>>149573016Did you have a favourite girl you kike to draw?
>>149573513It's actually somewhat neat to hear that, I've always thought one of the first thing you should do starting a story is to write the ending, that way even if the middle gets weak you have a satisfying conclusion What was your idea on how the comic would end?
>>149573362I can say that the next chapter was meant to be a parallel story, with one side dealing with Alex, her parents and progressing Peter/Hailey's situation, while the other was Sam and Lindsay figuring out things about themselves and each other. Also there might have been some Organization shenanigans and a dying war dragon involved.
>>149573432A little long to get into here, but it was basically a series of adventures/events that continued to establish and develop the girls and their abilities as well as revealing the sinister threat to the universe that was building. All in all, it was very anime. Not sure if that's a good thing or not any more...
>>149573513Hmmm you are being kind of cryptidic with the ending. Do you ever think on ending it?
Also did you had to consult The Wotch's writer at any moment or you were free to do whatever you wanted?
>>149573629It's certainly Alex. Cheer! kind of looked like a comic about all four girls equally, but in my head and my writing, Alex was definitely the main character.
>>149573016The Wotch had several fetishes on it. Do you have favorite ones? Are you still keeping up with the TG/TF art scene these days, or you left it behind?
>>149573727Hmmm... I can't argue with you there. So long as I keep the details of the story to myself, I feel like it's still slightly alive... like I could get inspired and pick it back up again. If I just write down what I had planned and post it, it feels like that's it... it's truly done.
As for consulting with Anne, I made sure that Cheer! did not impact The Wotch's main characters or storylines directly and any time I wanted to include something, I'd ask her first. We had pretty open communications about the comics and whatever else was going on. One thing I specifically remember asking about was making 32 the principal of the school since that could easily impact The Wotch, but Anne was cool with it. Even ended up with a cameo or two if I recall...
>>149573718>Not sure if that's a good thing or not any more...Anime is more popular than ever with shows likenMHA and Demon Slayer. Cheer is like a mix between a 4koma, Slice of Life, and some Shounen manga, so It's held up pretty well overall, and the 20-year nostalgia cycle means the 2000s (or at least certain parts like the internet) are trendy again anyway. It's not fine art, but it's fun to read, well written, and made me laugh, so good work.
Also nice work with the individual cheerleader outfits, genuis idea and the midriffs are great.
>>149573740>kind of looked like a comic about all four girls equallyWith all due respect it was pretty obvious after the first episode who the main character was going to be, that wasn't subtle at all
>>14957381532 is hands down a great character, love her design and personality.
What would you say were your main inspirations?
>>149573815Dude, your Jo scene with the wall at the date arc was so good I swear that it's why this scene was in the Wotch, I think you inspired them too.
>>149573767Hmmm... well, I've always enjoyed the TG/TF parts of The Wotch and other comics of the day. I can't say I'm really involved in any art scenes these days... I don't spend as much time online these days in general. I do miss being active in the old forums and comic community though.
>>149573875Yup, that's fair. I've just had a lot of comments, back then and since, about showing more of the other girls (whomever was their favourite I suppose), making it seem like all of them should be considered equals.
>>149573469That is a pretty punk approach, must have been fun.
>>149573933I'll be honest, I have no idea any more what specific inspirations I had for 32 and 29... They just had that classic odd couple vibe.
>>149573016Were there going to be a thing between Lita and Alex or was it just teasing with the idea that one was attracted to the other?
>>149573815I totally understand. If I wasn't super busy myself I would offer to draw for you, but a webcomic is a big investment of time that I don't have at the moment. I guess if you ever decide to do it in a novel format I would offer myself to draw some scenes.
>>149573815The approach of a parallel story sounds pretty interesting to me. Reading it for the first time it was funny seeing the character trip because of 32 and then checking out the main comic to see if someone trip in some panel.
How was it when both comic where being updated, did they had a schedule or where they posted when ever? did you had to follow the schedule of the main comic?
>>149573016Not a question about the comic but a few anons
>>149571362 >>149571453 >>149571701 offered to take drawing requests, would you like to request something?
>>149573941That's fair, touching grass is probably for the best hahaha. I've enjoyed your recent art on DA too.
I recommend you to add the TG tag and probably WOTCH and CHEER too when posting them to make it easier for finding on DA. Sure the scenes might not have tg, but they are characters who were TGed, and I think many people would love to know that you are still around.
>>149574147Lita is a flirt and Alex is enormously fun to tease. At some point, Lita probably got it in her head that she wasn't just teasing, but if it ever developed past friendship, it would be extremely short and disastrous. I was playing around with that as a possible bit of drama but wasn't sold on taking it any further than already depicted.
>>149574236I think Lita has enough sense to not go that far with someone who's more interested in cheerleading than anything else imo.
>>149574304I'd LIKE to think. Your the author, I'm not debating you on that lol.
>>149574170The Wotch and Cheer! ran their own update schedules and didn't really impact each other that way. I chose MWF because there was no way I could handle more than that, but I knew the importance of a reasonably frequent schedule. Of course the longer I went, the more gaps, missed updates and disappearances happened... webcomics are a huge time commitment!
>>149574190Hmmm... well, frankly I love to see my characters in other people's styles no matter what! But in keeping with the comic itself, maybe your favourite character(s), whether on the squad or not, in a custom Cheer! squad uniform that suits them.
That or Alex in her WoW robe, as that's my classic get-a-commission default.
Thanks!
