Jungle adventure comics were once hugely popular but aren't anymore. Why is that and how can we bring them back?

They won't ever be hugely popular again because real world adventure is dead as a genre, it doesn't ignite the public imagination anymore. It is still kind of present as a niche though, Frank Cho had that comic of his, Dynamite puts out Sheena comics every now and then...etc

You could set it in the past, or an alternate history, or a fantasy world.

It helps that she's in the public domain and had a pretty famous creator in Will Eisner.

You could also make something that leans into it being a parody of the genre like venture bros was for johnny quest.

Jungle Girl (AKA "Shanna the She-Devil but no restrictions"). But he just did the covers, not the interior. Would also help if it didn't completely go off the fucking rails with the story in the third series with the aliens.

You'd think the genre of a woman or man walking around the jungle in very little clothing would be forever popular.

I am not. When searching for this image, I was also reminded that there's Lovecraft Old Ones bullshit thrown in there, too (which is pretty normal for a Dynamite book).

Well that makes sense for them considering they also own the rights to Red Sonja a conan the barbarian character.

Why aren't they popular anymore? Because they depict scantily-clad white heroes in Africa, breaking two big modern taboos.

Also a lot of these old jungle characters are public domain and free to use, but the only ones I can think of that use them are Antarctic Press.

Jungle adventure fiction was big before comics were even a thing. Tarzan, The Lost World, Bomba the Jungle Boy, etc. Comics were lucky to have blown up before it went out of style.
Unfortunately, jungle adventure fiction was a product of the colonialism zeitgeist, so when that went out of fashion it left a bad stink that could have been purged if the frontier of space exploration hadn't captured people's interest and brought on the switch to science fiction. Even if you get past the racism, most of those old tropes are embarrassing just for how old they are at this point. It also doesn't help that as time went on the over all mystery of the jungle vanished as we figured out what was in them and started cutting them down.
I think the best way to do get that foot back in the door without getting anyone's panties in a bunch would be to keep the whole story native. No meddlers from civilization causing or solving problems, and no mighty whitey foundlings raised by tribes or animal packs. Just tell stories that take a look into a beautiful but dangerous and brutal world, following the people who are a part of it.

Who knows, it could be a lot of reasons, the whole world became mapped a long time ago, there are no real undiscovered frontiers left on Earth. Space sci-fi came along and that became a new frontier for people to think about. Then TV came out with a lot of nature shows where you could see the jungle and exotic locations on PBS every night and so the average person's curiosity was satisfied by that.

The whole world is mostly mapped and there's no more mysterious corners of the world, also the usual suspects don't like watching white male explorers exploring.
