No he's right sort of, there was a stupid explanation for Superman being able to lift shit by Byrne post crisis without it falling apart called the Superman Bio Electric Field or Superman Field or Superman Aura

No you’re conflating different things

The bio electric field isn’t from that Byrne story, that’s a later explanation just why his clothes don’t rip, it’s a forcefield on his skin not tk.

The Byrne story wasn’t about why things don’t fall apart, it’s why he struggles to lift heavy objects while standing but not while flying. Nothing to do with falling apart, only to do with why it’s no longer heavy to him. Not reasoned with any forcefield.

Matrix Supergirl isn’t a kryptonian, she’s a gummy robot made by Lex Luthor to mimic Superman’s powers using tk instead. Kon at this same decade was explained away as not really a kryptonian but a regular human modified with telekinesis to imitate kryptonian strength, because execs wanted Superman’s powers to be uniquenso Supergirl and Kon both had to be telekinetic while Superman just had ordinary strength.

They’re very very clear about this in all the profiles and stories of them together: Matrix has tk (robot), Kon has tk (human experiment, Superman has flight and superstrength (kryptonian).

I don't remember one about his clothes not ripping cuz that was like a huge thing in the 90's with beat up torn shirt and cape Superman. There was one about clothes being clean earlier wasn't though.

Admittedly I haven't read the Byrne story since it was out so maybe I'm misremembering but doesn't the explanation for the field start with him holding the nose a plane? And then later explained as he has to be touching something so he can extend his field over it?

All Star I think he was able to expand his field which is an elseworlds but still

Actually, in Moon Knight's first appearance, he was just a mercenary with silver weapons sent by the Commitee to capture the Werewolf Russell. He had no ties to Khonshu or any supernatural abilities, and "Moon Knight" was just a name picked by the Commitee to further kick Russell down. In his first major run this was retconned though.

Thor's time travel powers were at least explicitly removed rather than just "forgotten". Except for the fact that he lost the power in a story from the 60s/70s, which means that all the flashback stories involving him (and fuck me, there's a lot) do forget that he would've had the power at the time.

I don't know about this one but I will say Aquaman is a lot stronger than people give him credit for. On land, he's effectively Golden Age Superman, and underwater, he's like post-Crisis Supes. Mera's the same, she's not just a mage type with the hydrokinesis. She could legit kill regular humans or low level metas quite easily with her bare hands if she wanted to.

Fuck the JL movies for making him as weak against Superman as they did. A lot of comics have it so that if he gives it his all, he can at least make Superman feel a punch on dry land or something. As much as I liked the Aquaman movies, he felt a little weak there too.

Golden Age Supes is the OG version of the character that can 'only' lift up cars, run faster than speeding bullets, leap tall buildings, etc. Notably, he couldn't fly. He also didn't have his heat or x-ray vision iirc.

Post-Crisis is the version spanning from after Crisis on Infinite Earths to Flashpoint. Granted, his power level fluctuated in this period. Initially, he was depowered crazily from the insanely powerful Silver Age version. Basically if you've ever seen the DCAU cartoon, he was around that level. Think Golden Age Superman but a bit more powerful overall, with flight and his other powers. He couldn't even fly out into outer space without having a specially made suit for that.

Then as time went on, starting from the early-mid 2000's, he got a power boost and began to be powerful again, even being able to fly out into space, lifting objects that were several thousand tons in terms of mass, fighting what you may call 'city-busters', if not planet busters, on much more even footing.

But yeah, Aquaman in the comics has been closer to the latter period of post-Crisis Supes for a long time now. Dude's a beast underwater.

>Guy Gardner used to be a teacher/social worker
>Batman canonically shitposts on the internet to hide his identity
>Dinah Lance isn't a natural blonde
>Geoff Johns’ first wife was a black woman and that’s why the Crimson Avenger he created and Peek-A-Boo in his JSA and Flash runs were black women
But I knew all of these already. Guy being a teacher/social worker adds so much to his character. Glad to see it's back.

A few more:
>Zatanna has a fear of puppets
>Aquaman had a mixed Inuit son post-Crisis
>Hal Jordan once came on to Supergirl when she was barely legal iirc
>Supergirl and Mary Marvel were best friends for awhile post-Crisis

>interesting, thanks for the write-up! I always assumed he could always breathe or fly in outer space but I guess not.
No problem.

Nowadays, when he flies into outer space, he just holds his breath. I think it was like that in the Silver Age too but I wouldn't put it past writers to just have him talk in space...just cuz.

>and what about Silver Age Superman was so powerful?
Just good ol' power creep.

>did anything change in the bronze age since we haven't mentioned that so far?
I believe in the Bronze Age, he was mostly as powerful as he was prior, but there was an attempt by Dennis O'Neil to depower him.

Yes, which couldn't be more different from evolution/adjustment/refinement
for example: WW being dramatically shaped on the beach instead of a figurine popping to life is refinement. GOOD
WW suddenly becoming another shitty demigod is change for the sake of change. BAD

A change actually being any of these is completely arbitrary though. Guy has a personality that matches him being a cop and it positions him to have a potentially dangerous background like John and Hal's military backgrounds. This one turn contrasts them to Kyle's more laid back job making him more unique. All in all it's a good change for the character

Speaking of Hal's ring, all the GL rings used to have an impurity that gave each one a unique bonus ability. Hal had a few though, one being able to duplicate his ring but the other was being immune to stabbing or impaling or mortal wounds some such thing which was in the same issue.

Kyle wore Hal's ring specifically for that ability in Emerald Knights I believe.

Moon Knight's cape lets him glide with it and fly like the Arkham Knight Batman cape too, I think people just assume Batman's works the same since his cape being a cool high tech tacticool glider that also doubles as a bullet-proof shield when he swings it in front of his face like Dracula makes more sense than it being purely cosmetic and him needing to rely on an actual paraglider and grappling hook only.

I'm like 95% sure I've seen him cape-glide in actual comics too occasionally so even writers forget, but there's some pretty famous stories where if he had the Arkham cape the outcome would be totally different. In Hush his suit is so weak that merely having his grapple hook cut unexpectedly is enough to nearly kill him, as he has no other ways of breaking his fall, no parachute or glider, and the suit's armor doesn't even stop him breaking his arm on the way down and nearly dying as he falls. Pure gravity from an average rooftop height is enough to almost kill Batman in Hush, hard to believe it's the same guy who's survived falling from orbit and getting punched/thrown around by parademons and Darkseid in justice league teamups (yeah yeah "muh he parries the blow or moved with the hit to reduce damage! even incidental contact with Darkseid would turn you to tomato paste without fucking power armor which his suit is often shown to be a form of)

Like in pic related Arkham bats is totally fine.

Batman having a less functional cape than moony feels dumb when Marc's is mostly used for aura farming poses and he doesn't even fight with it like Batman does with his cape and he doesn't even have one in every outfit.
I'm gonna go check and see if I can find Batman cape gliding in his regular outfit since I'm almost positive I've seen it happen (I also remember the Hush scene because I remember thinking how dumb it was at the time watching the animated movie until I learned it actually happened that way in the comics too, talk about a jobber moment, mother fucker you're a billionaire and you don't even carry a second grappling hook???)

It doesn't. Capeshit writers don't even have a middle school level grasp on biology or any scientific area which is very apparent if you examine their writings with even the tiniest bit of scrutiny.. The powers conferred on someone having the x-gene, metagene, etc. would require hundreds if not thousands of genes working together to produce the effect. You're just supposed to accept it, no questions asked.

That's literally how genes work. You have groups of master control genes that control a series of other genes, so if you trigger, say, a single gene coded to "make eye" it makes an eye, rather than having to go through and alter each individual gene below it. A minor tweak to a leg gene in fruit flies will cause extra legs to grow, or grow out of their head. A lot of powers are simply basic body/cell functions writ large.
It's still bullshit because the mutation needs to be self-stabilizing not to mention other factors that wouldn't play in the real world but it's slightly less bullshit than it seems on the surface.

Ah, I'm going to assume that you're European. No, most cops are petty tyrants who are never in danger and contribute literally nothing to society. They are usually dudes who peaked hard in highschool and desperately want some kind of power, or ex-military crayon eaters who cannot get any other job. They're aren't "put through the grinder," they are a protected class of thug. I can see how this might be confusing if you are from a country that actually has a functioning police force, or you're only aware of American police from a Dick Wolf TV show.

just because our police system is a broken mess doesn't mean that I think that it's impossible to have a useful police force. The concept of law enforcement isn't inherent evil, but the implementation pretty much guarantees a state sponsored gang of thugs with too much power and zero accountability. The fact that our cops are, at best useless and at worst criminals, has nothing to do with fun heroic adventures in space solving space mysteries, anon.

Are there mathematical outliers? Certainly, I'm sure that there are as many good cops as, say, literal serial killer cops. But most cops are just kind of terrible, and the system enforces this.
