Attuma is not some fratboy passing out roofies. He's a refined traditionalist when it comes to violating heroines. You render her unconscious, change her into something revealing, and surround her with luxuries, then you rape her once she has come to and understands she is under your control. Honestly if anyone is the bad guy here it's Jean for not following proper decorum.

>Was Scott late with the rescue and obligatory sword fight with Attuma?
Cyclops was too busy sucking dicks, Beast was the only other member of X-Factor in the story, and Jean saved herself from Attuma before he could get there.

Then Jean got captured all over again and brainwashed to be one of the Seven Brides of Set, along with the other main heroines of Marvel circa 1989, plus a token Atlantean. Fortunately they were all rescued before the wedding could take place.

There was one.
In it since Set got to mate with all of them they gave birth to chthulu monsters that devoured everyone and only Thor survived. So he went to a different universe since that one was doomed.

Cyclops literally had to have his ass kicked and be forced to spend time with his family. Dude was always looking for any excuse to run out to grab a pack of smokes. An entire X-Men event is centered around retconning the prior couple of years of X-Men stories so that Cyclops wasn't a shitbag who bailed on his wife and kid to live with his ex-girlfriend. Jean was not the bad guy in X-Factor.

Jean is actually far less relevant to modern X-Men than most people assume. She was gone for half the 80s, in a secondary title for the other half, spent the 90s as a mid-carder, played second fiddle to Emma and killed off under Morrison, dead until 2018, and fairly unimportant ever since. Even Krakoa was more concerned with who she was dating rather than her as a character.

It was the early 70s FF by Roy Thomas, before Byrne even worked at Marvel, and when the CCA had enough power that the stories couldn't really even suggest that Johnny and Crystal were sexually active (Johnny was shown sharing a room with Ben instead), or that Crystal had cheated on him. It plays out that Johnny has a girlfriend who lives half way around the world, and he doesn't get to see her very often anymore, and finds out she's leaving him for someone else who's right there with her.

Thomas was coordinating with Englehart on Avengers to write Crystal out of FF and Quicksilver out of Avengers, and retire them both as characters, giving FF writers back the single Johnny they wanted, and giving Avengers writers the opportunity to let Wanda develop and shine without her overprotective brother holding her back.

There's a late 1970s X-Men story where the team are under Mesmero's control for some length of time, and they ended up having to write a prelude story to confirm that he didn't rape Phoenix, and couldn't even touch her without losing his control over her, so the Carol story probably did make Marvel frightened of even ambiguous situations where a villain had the opportunity to do some raping. Though the 'villain captures a heroine and dresses his captive in a sexier costume than normal" trope still happened sometimes.

Despite the fear of unintentionally implied rape moments, there were a few 80s stories where the writer absolutely intended it, like Mockingbird in Englehart's West Coast Avengers, or Claremont writing Karma's origin, some anon recently described that story as a "porn movie rape boat".
