The overwhelming message of Alan Moore is that if you have the inclination to do something superheroic you're probably a fascist and also maladjusted somehow. It's a very pessimistic outlook on humans. I don't know what he's got against displays of heroism.

Come to think of it, a lot of the Brits have this attitude. Ennis has it too.

Surely dressing up as a bat at night and hitting people is normal behavior.

This and Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow sucks.

Feels infantile compared to Watchmen and For the Man who has Everything.

That's the overwhelming message if you've only read Watchmen, Miracleman, and The Killing Joke.

This is the opinion of a person who has not read very many Alan Moore comics.

As if those hold a candle to From Hell and Providence.

I didn't get the impression that that was what that scene was getting at. It is sort of up to interpretation though.

I'll never be able to read this because it is a sequel to the retarded fish rape comic and I really don't want to read that.

His work isn't that esoteric. Unlike most "critically acclaimed" artists, he knows the reader's enjoyment is key to a comic's success. So anything plot critical is explained, while everything else is left for you to research.
Just don't expect a summer blockbuster and you'll be fine.
