Sonic Prime was so insufferably boring and bland...
You could really tell how 3d shows can suffer from low budgets when you see all these 'worlds' that are... flat plane of water. Generic jungle. Literal void.
And the New Yoke which feels like the only location they had any budget for.
At least with 2d l, artists could come up with more variety not confined by limited assets

SEGA are a fucking nightmare to deal with when it comes to getting approval for storytelling. They want Sonic to be a blank slate at all times, so nothing can contradict anything they add into the games. But they also have tons of shifting rules they make up that fuck with the writers for the shows and comics.
